For some reason, to me anyway, it seems Sally Hansen polishes don’t get much love in the You Tube community or in the blog world. I don’t know why that is because they are a great line of polishes. The colors are great, in fact some of the colors are exact dupes for more expensive brands, the brushes are the best brushes I’ve used. The brush is wider and flatter than most. I happen to like that. I did hear one person say they didn’t like the brush, and I thought “hhnhhuh”?

I own 4 Sally Hansen Salon Manicure polishes

20120229-185413.jpg
They are from left to right; Gray by Gray, Greige Gardens, Plum’s the Word and Commander in Chic.

The only picture I don’t have is Plum’s the Word, because I haven’t worn that one yet. To tell the truth I forgot I had it and recently found it in my medicine cabinet. Usually I put polishes I don’t like in my medicine cabinet, so I don’t know how that one got there, because I do like it. I will probably wear it next.
Here is a picture of swatches: they are from left to right; Plum’s the Word, Gray by Gray, Greige Gardens and Commander in Chic.

Commander in Chic is an exact dupe for Sephora by OPI Metro Chic and Essie Merino Cool. These are each swatched here, can you tell the difference?

Be sure to check out my You Tube channel as I have done a NOTD on most of these colors, and will do one on Plum’s the Word when I wear it.my You Tube Channel
Let me know if you know of any other dupes Sally Hansen has. I think it is a great polish at an affordable price. What do you think?

From OPI
Teasley Does It
Lucertenly Nailed It
Barefoot in Barcelona
DS Gold
Parley voui OPI?
From the archives of OPI, a discontinued color called Far East Fuschia
and this one is called Shorts story.

20120226-145525.jpg
From Revlon:
Black with Envy (which is a close dupe for CHANEL’s Black Pearl)
Dreamer
Carbonized (I think this is an old one, and may have been re-named??)
Princess

From China Glaze:
Recycle

From Essie:
Island Hopping (while organizing I found another one on the list that I have)
School of Hard Rocks
Jamaica Me Crazy
Cocktail Bling

There are some from Zoya I would like, but to be honest I have never seen Zoya for sale in an actual store that I’ve been in. Remember, I’m in a small town in Idaho but I still find it odd not to see Zoya anywhere?

The other brand I’m longing for is Nubar. I have one from them called Purple Beach and it is in my top 5 of all time. It goes on bluesy/brown but dries down to purple, but wait there’s more, when the light changes on it, it turns green. It is the oddest polish I have, I like odd. Check out my You Tube channel for my video ” NOTD~Nubar Purple and some skin concerns” to see this weird and wonderful polish.

What polish is on your list to buy? Any suggestions you think I might like?

Today is the Academy Awards broadcast. Ashley is coming to watch with me at my house. Just the 2 of us. When the girls were little we would all dress up, including Drew and watch the Oscars and pretend we were there. What I wouldn’t give to have those days back!

This is the most recent picture of Ashley and I. Ashley wanted us to enter a contest put on by StyleMint to win new tees. The contest was to submit a picture with some one you love wearing Style Mint tees. This is the picture Ashley submitted:

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if we won? Fingers crossed. Ok now on to the nail of the day (NOTD) this is Go Go Pink by China Glaze. I picked this up in a prepackaged set of this polish, a bottle of Seche Vite fast drying top coat and a pink crystal angel for your key ring. This was put out during October for breast cancer awareness month. I was in a pink mood today so I used this color.

20120226-143438.jpg
I have quite a few pink polishes but that didn’t stop me from picking up yet another one. This is from Butter London, I loved the packaging and the polish remover smells like baby powder.

20120226-143718.jpg
The color is Teddy Girl. And yes I ordered this before lent. I painted these two side by side and i cannot tell the difference between them. China Glaze did take a third coat for full opacity, while the Butter London only needed two coats.
Thanks for stopping by.
Do you like this pink? Ever in a pink mood?

This is from the new Holland collection by OPI. Yes, this is a new polish but I bought it before Lent began, along with several others. Kinda like a ‘last supper’ if you will. I will post other swatches from this new collection as I do them.

The sun came out, for literally three minutes, so I took this picture outside. I love the sparkles in this. They make me smile. 🙂
This polish goes on exactly as it looks in the bottle, which is always nice. Although I must tell you, this is with 3 coats. Normally I do 2 coats, not always a top coat, but this one still showed the tips of my nails with only 2 coats so I added a 3rd coat because I do not like that. I also have on a top coat of Seche Vite fast drying topcoat as I don’t have all day for my nails to dry.

The other polishes I got from this collection are Gouda, Gouda Two Shoes, Wooden Shoes Like to Know, and Thanks a Windmillion. Go to my YouTube page for my video of Wooden Shoes Like to know by clicking here: My You Tube Channell ~ NOTD Wooden Shoes Like to Know
Thanks so much for stopping by…. Let me know what you think ….

Today is Ash Wednesday. It is a day for reflection and suffering. It is a day to free oneself of humanly bonds so that our soul can live in peaceful eternity. For me Ash Wednesday is a day to test my will power. And this year my will power will be tested. You see, I have a problem….I’m an addict. Yes, an addict. I’m addicted to nail polish.

20120222-165401.jpg
This the whole of my nail polish collection. Maybe. I might have a few more in my medicine cabinet, but if they are in my medicine cabinet, I don’t care for them.

Less than 3 months ago, this was the extent of my polish collection.

20120222-170207.jpg
Then, at Christmas time, every time I logged onto Sephora dot com, I saw this amazing set of miniature nail polish. A set of 18 OPI colors. For only $49.99.

20120222-170359.jpg
So of course I bought this set. I remember exactly the day it arrived, I spent most of the day painting, and re-painting my nails. That was the beginning.

20120222-170804.jpg
This is the end. At least for the next forty days. Yes, I am giving up buying nail polish for lent. I must say though, I can polish my nails daily and not repeat a color. For more than forty days!
So by my counting, I will have to make do until April 2nd. I think I can do it. I will be honest and let you know if I break my Lenten promise.

What did you give up for lent? Anything? I had a friend who gave up coffee every year. She drank decaf coffee, but she gave it up every year.

I have been looking for a green fingernail polish for quite some time. As I’m sure with you, I would buy a polish because it looked great at the store, but the second I got home with it, I knew it was not for me. Especially the green colors.

I found this one from Revlon called “Varnished”

20120221-110444.jpg
As you can see this color suits my coloring.

I like this polish because the formula is smooth and goes on without any fuss. I had been using quite a few Essie polishes before this one. And we all know Essie can be quite fussy to work with. This Revlon went on great. In fact I had been used to doing such thin coats with the Essie that this one would probably go on with one normal coat. The picture is with 2 coats and no top coat.

I think it looks beautiful and it wears nice. What do you think?

There is a nail polish company from the northwest called Julep. I am liking this program more and more. What it is, is a monthly subscription service for nail polish! Remember Book of the Month, or Columbia House records? Like that only nail polish. Go to http://www.julep.com/?r=18436663. If you go to this site from this link I do get a referral point. With 2 referrals I will get a free month. 🙂
So go two times! Not really, just kidding!

20120220-211902.jpg
At the website you will fill out a style quiz, from that they determine which kind of ‘maven’ you are. You can be an American Beauty (me), BoHo Glam, Bombshell (Jilly), Classic with a Twist (mom), or It Girl (Ashley). Then based upon that you get a box with 2 polishes, a hand cream and a couple of samples. All for $5, use the code INTRO. If you continue in the program it is $19.99 per month.
These polishes are what they call “4Free” meaning they are free of 4 of the worst chemicals used in polishes. I don’t know what they are, but some polishes say they are “3Free” ( Butter London, Gosh, Barry M, and Debra Lippmann). This company also donates $1 from each maven box to a charity based in helping women’s causes. So they are a good company and they are from Seattle! Love that!

20120220-212404.jpg

20120220-212433.jpg

Each month they will send you an email showing you what colors you will be getting. You can change to another box with different colors, skip a month, send to someone else or cancel. They are very easy to work with. If you do nothing then you will get a box with your maven type for that month. The It Girl maven is always just polish and you get 3 bottles of polish. Each month there is another item besides the 2 polishes. The first box has a hand cream, the 2nd box I got had a cuticle oil. Some boxes got a hair finish spray. They have body scrubs, this month they are giving a bottle of Argan oil.
Julep Nail Polish
I have received 2 colors I did not like, one was pale yellow and the other a rusty red, but I think they will be great on my toes! If you are interested check the web for codes because they have offered it recently for one penny. I just google coupon codes, there are several sites that you can get the code for. Let me know what you think! Thanks so much.
