Middle Aged Beauty Queen

I have been writing this blog for a year now.πŸŽˆπŸŽ‚πŸ‘‘. I started out writing on blogger, but I could not upload pics from my iPad, so I switched to Word Press in February, 2012. Because what is a blog without pictures? πŸ‘Ž

In the past year I have come to the realization that yes, I’m an addict, a nail polish addict. πŸ’…. How do I know? You might be a NP junkie if…

At your family Christmas dinner, you take your sister-in-law aside just to spice up her nails with a little glitter topcoat (I used Hello Kitty Glitter Top Coat). She wants to be festive, right?

20120831-171032.jpg My SIL Tammy’s spiced up nails!

You might be a NP junkie if…. While organizing your polishes, which you do on a regular basis, you come across a polish that you have been shopping for weeks for. And you wonder, hmmm… How long have I had this?

20120831-171741.jpgChina Glaze For Audrey

You might be a NP junkie if… your friend looks at your nails and says, “That’s a pretty color, is it a new one?”. And you say no, no, I’ve had this forever when really you just drove 30 miles to buy it.

20120831-172120.jpgEssie Play Date

You might be a NP junkie if… you go on a website to buy 1 bottle of polish but instead you buy 13.

you might be a NP junkie if… for your birthday/Mother’s Day gift your daughter gives you this.

You might be a NP junkie if… while driving, all you can look at is how pretty your nails look in the sunlight. Accident, waiting to happen! Yikes!

So, yes I am a nail polish junkie. I don’t think there is a rehab for this, and frankly it wouldn’t help. In the past year I have amassed quite a collection of beautiful polish. Just when I think I am happy with all that I have, a new collection comes out from OPI, Zoya, Essie, CHANEL, and I’m off again looking to buy more polish. I know how a junkie must feel.

I get a lot of joy from my nail polish collection and when I am bored I know I can always Keep Calm and Paint my Nails!
πŸ˜„As always, thanks for stopping by.

I live very close to the cemetery in my town. It is called Normal Hill Cemetery and I would guess it is as old as my town, which just turned 150 last year. When my kids were in junior high school their Art teacher had them do a cemetery art project. Their assignment was to walk through the cemetery looking at the headstones and the different art pieces on the headstones. They would take a piece of paper and a crayon, pencil or marker and copy the art work. I thought it was such an interesting project, and all these years later I still walk the cemetery looking at the art work.

I think the cemetery in itself is somewhat a piece of art. I love how the rows all line up, everything seems very organized and tidy. The other interesting thing about our town cemetery is the city has planted trees. Not just any tree, but a different species of tree. The last count I heard there are over 80 species of trees in the cemetery. The city has tried to label the trees with the name of the species, but they weren’t very forethinking (is that a word?) because the brass labels they used tarnished and, oh by the way, the trees grew and embodied most of the labels. There is a city project in the works to label the trees properly and in a way that will last.

Of course there are times I come across a grave of some one I knew, and that always gives me time for pause. I don’t know what it is but I will be thinking of someone, and the next time I’m in the cemetery I will see their grave, happens all the time. One time a friend was telling me a story of Black Joe who was the only black person that lived in our town. This was in the 1950’s, he told so many funny stories about him and one day I saw a gravestone but the name was covered in leaves, I’d walked by and I don’t know what made me go back to it, but I did go back and move the leaves. And you got it, it was Black Joe. That was the name on his headstone. I didn’t have my iPad back then or I’d taken a picture of it.
Just the other day I came across this placard honoring the Jewish families of our town, which were very few.

I wish I had a better camera to really show the great art on these beautiful remembrance of someone who was loved. To me the elaborate headstones say Love. There a lot more plain grave markers than there are adorned headstones. Just goes to show one should never take being loved for granted.

It may seem creepy to some, but I get a lot of peace from our little town cemetery. If you have kids I think the art project is a great one to do with your kids. These pictures have been my summer in the cemetery, I will post pictures from every season, there is not a bad season for the cemetery.

I must tell you right off the bat, this is my very first Deborah Lippmann polish, EVER !. Can you believe it? For some reason I have never bought a DL polish. I love her polishes, I love her story, I follow her on Twitter, I watch her on HSN, I read every article about her, but just never bought her polishes. For one thing, she is known mostly for glitter polish. The Queen of Glitter would be Deborah Lippmann. The Anti-Queen of Glitter would be me!. Ha! I would through everyone with glitter polish on their nails in the dungeon. They can wear it on their toes, but not on their nails! There, I said it, I don’t like glitter nail polish. I think anyone who knows me already knows this about me.
This summer was the summer of turquoise, if you ask me, I think turquoise just screamed Summer 2012! Part of the reason for that is because DL released, early in the Spring 2012 these 2 polishes:

20120829-230114.jpg. please note: I did not take this photo. This was taken from the Nordstrom website. Mermaid’s Dream and On the Beach were instant hits and from there summer began, with the turquoise color, not tangerine as stated by Sephora and Pantone. Although, I will say there was a ton of coral out there this summer, to go along with the turquoise.
Back to the reason I bought a DL polish. I have been working all summer on a comparison of nail polish by brand. I have been using the criteria of cost, dry time, wearability, stain/no-stain, formula, VNL, size of bottle, bottle design and removal. I have tested Revlon, Chanel, illamasqua, Dior, Sally Hansen, wet n wild, essence, Barry M, Catrice, Gosh, Essie, Julep, CND, Mac, Nails Inc, Sephora by OPI, Ciate, butter London, Models Own, OPI, China Glaze, Orly, Zoya, Borghese, Megan Miller, Color Club, Cosmetic Arts, Venique and L’Oreal. What is missing from this list? Deborah Lippmann. So now I had a reason to buy a DL polish.

To some this may seem a boring beige, and to be honest my first thought was “mannequin hands anyone?”. But, after wearing this polish for a few days I have come to love it. It has a lavender undertone to it, and the slightest bit of shimmer, when the light hits it just right it glistens beautifully. This is a gorgeous polish, and I’m going to even say this is in my top 5 favorite polishes. Okay, okay I know my top 5 really has about 12 polishes in there but this deserves a spot in the top 5. It is that pretty.

I really like my very first Deborah Lippmann polish purchase. And I will be going back for more.

πŸ’…Thanks for stopping by πŸ˜„

Every Sunday I dedicate wearing a polish I own, that for whatever reason, I have never worn before. This is a way I can make sure to wear all my polish eventually. I usually buy polish 2or 3 at a time, and some of them get pushed to the back of the cabinet. This way I will not leave a polish out.

This Sunday I am wearing Russian Red by Mac
. This is a gorgeous red polish. I think it is the perfect red. Every girl needs a perfect red polish in her collection, and this would be a good one.

20120826-150821.jpg. This was given to me by my friend Indie as a birthday present. I wore it once in a half and half manicure I’d done with the Russian Red and an Orange polish.

20120826-151001.jpg. I love this polish so much I will be putting it in my Top 5 list. The formula is great, it goes on so smooth, flawless, dries like glass. I used a fast dry top coat but you don’t really need one because it is so shiny on its own. I painted 2 thin coats. The first coat was a little streaky, which I find that a lot with a good quality polish. The second coat goes on smooth and evens everything out. I think when people first paint a polish they want the first coat to be perfect so they add more polish. When you do that, after the polish dries it will pool and bubble, so to keep that from happening, I paint using 2 thin coats. The result is a flawless glass like finish that is gorgeous. I can’t stop looking at it.

20120826-151414.jpg. This seems to be a pretty fancy polish, but I have been wearing it for 2 days now and I am loving more every day. Thank you so much Indie for getting this for me. Please check out Indie’s You Tube channel and she also has a blog, listed in my blog roll, where she does awesome reviews on different products. She will review make up, eyeshadow, shampoo, mascaras, blush, ect…. The thing that is different about Indie’s reviews is she is very thorough, leaves no stone un turned. Once she reviews a product you will have all your questions answered. Love that about her. one of my very favorite You Tube videos EVER is Indie and her daughter doing a Mother’s Day makeover. It is the funniest thing to watch, but so touching to see the love between these two and the patience only a mother can possess. I hope you check it out. You can see it here.

20120826-152446.jpg one more photo for the road. So, so pretty. Tell me what you think about this polish. Is this your perfect red color? What is your perfect red.

πŸ’…Thanks so much for stopping byπŸ’…

This title could have read: My Top 5 ~ Merino Cool from Essie,
Or Sephora by OPI Metro Chic, or Mischievous from Revlon, or VIP from Revlon Top Speed, or greyt expectations from L’Oreal , or wet Cement from Wet n Wild or Whisky Vamp from Venique, or Berlin There Done That from OPI’s Germany collection. The list goes on and on. No wonder, this is a great color for a nail polish. And I for one love it.

This is Commander in Chic by Sally Hansen. Tell me this is not the perfect polish you’ve ever seen?. I love this polish. I love this polish so much, I can go so far as to say it maybe my favorite one of all the polish I own. There I said it. I made my Sophie’s choice. I feel comfortable making this statement as every time I wear this polish I A) get tons of compliments, B) people want to know the name of it and where they can get it and C) I seldom remove until I see wear on the tips. Which we all know that never happens.

And D) yes, I have a back up bottle of Commander in Chic by Sally Hansen. . (see the extra bottle) This is the only polish I have a back up for. Not that I need a back up bottle because I have several that are exact dupes, beginning with Merino Cool from Essie. greyt expectations from L’Oreal, Mischievous from Revlon, a no name one from Cosmetic Arts, Whiskey Vamp from Venique and another one from Revlon’s Top Speed line called VIP. There is a new one from OPI’s Germany collection called Berlin There Done That, named fittingly don’t you think? That looks an awful lot like C in C. The new OPI Germany one is swatched farthest to the right on the nail wheel. Oh well, the more the merrier, I always say.

There are so many others that are, if not exact dupes, then pretty darn close. The ones I know of are Sephora by OPI Metro Chic, Wet n Wild Wet Cement is also very close.
It’s just that this is that great color you can wear with everything and anything. It is technically called a taupe but I would call it a dirty taupe with a purple undertone to it. There is no shimmer, no duo-chrome action, just creamy loveliness on a nail.

20120823-234635.jpg One last picture for the road!. If you don’t already own this polish then I suggest you add it to your collection, or one of the others mentioned, as it is one of those great working polishes. If you worked in an office with a dress code, I think this would be fine. I think this would be totally appropriate for a wedding and/or funereal. By a working polish I mean it just goes with everything outfit wise you could wear from jeans and a tee to a fancy get up. It goes with everything as far as events, lunch with friends, dates with your husband, teacher’s meetings. I would not feel uncomfortable with this polish in any situation, except I would not wear this polish to a job interview. Barring a job interview, this polish can be worn Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, short nails or longer nails.

I bet you already have a version of this polish, don’t you? Please let me know which one you have, I would love to know.

I don’t know about you but I have a wish list a mile long from Zoya and I plan on taking full advantage of this promo.. Do you have a wish list for Zoya?

This is Katherine, from the designer series, by Peter Som. This was used in his collection during NYFW.

This is Rehka from the designer Bibhu Mohapatra. /em>

This is Evvie. Evvie is also from the Peter Som designer series. I have had Evvie in my shopping cart since I first saw her
. I was just waiting for another promo to purchase her.

One thing about Zoya’s promos that you kind of have to watch out for, is the shipping. Yes, they will have an amazing BOGO but when you add $6.95 per bottle for shipping really you are only saving $1.05 per bottle. So watch their shipping charges and take advantage of the free shipping when they offer it, like this current promotion has free shipping, but only if you buy 6 bottles, you only pay for 3, but if you order 4 bottles, yes you pay for only 2 with the promo but shipping will be added.. So go shopping for at least 6 bottles. I was actually kind of glad because I found some polish named for a couple of my friends so I ordered those. I get the ones I wanted, a couple of little gifts and FREE SHIPPING! Win!
Please let me know what you got from this promotion, if anything? I love hearing your favorite Zoya colors.
πŸ’…As always, Thanks so much for stopping by!πŸ’…

Once again Zoya is offering a promotion through their Share the Love program. Sorry, I didn’t give more notice because by midnight tonight you need to have your account set up through the Share the Love link. If you do not have an account already, and I stress the IF, click on the Share the Love link, you will go to their website where you basically set up a log in. That’s all there is to it. You get points for signing up, I believe it’s enough points for a free bottle of polish, but I’m not sure if they still do that.
According to Zoya’s Facebook page they will add points to everyone who has an account set up for a special promotion. They also indicated there will be free shipping, so double YaY!πŸŽ‰πŸŽˆπŸ‘

You guys all know it took me forever to get on board with this Share the Love program, but once I was on board I have got some amaZing deals!

This little haul cost me $16 ~ along with some of my points, but what a great deal! I was able to send some Zoya to Nicky in Ireland, she was happy about that. Anyway, it’s a great program, if you aren’t signed up, click on one of the links above and get signed up. You need to click on one of the links above to be a part of the Share the Love Program. I can’t wait to see what their new promo will be.

I just happen to be wearing Audrina from Zoya today. This is from their Gossip collection which included LC, Lo, Elodie, Heidi and Whitney. I have Lo and LC from this collection as well.

LC is on the left pinky/ring fingers and Lo is on the others.

I love the formula of Zoya polish. It is consistently good, not too goopy, not too water-y, not streaky, it is just right. I like shopping their website because they break it down by collections, colors, seasons, or cool or warm tones. So if you want to only look for green polish you click shop by green. If you want to shop for only cool tone polish, you have that option. I need a cool tone polish, warm tone just doesn’t look good on me. I really appreciate the opportunity to shop for my polish that way.

Enough about how much I Love Zoya!. Go, sign up, and then you can tell me what colors you bought and how much you love Zoya!

πŸ’…As always, thanks for stopping by! πŸ˜„
