Middle Aged Beauty Queen

Archive for October 2012

This tree lives around the corner from me. When the sun shines,it is such a pretty color!

A couple of blocks from me, these people go all out every Halloween with decorations that completely transform their house. The ship is part of their house. The front yard is a graveyard, complete with tombstones.

The house is on a corner. The ship is on their side yard, the graveyard is their front yard.
At night they have a pirate lit up, a lit up moon, a flying witch and about 200 jack o’ lanterns. It is quite the spectacle!

Another pretty tree. This is a dogwood, which in the spring blooms white petals!

And of course, we can’t forget about the upcoming election. There are not too many political signs around as I live in Idaho. We have 1 electoral vote. Idaho has voted “red” for ever. I don’t even know if Idaho has ever been anything but red. Thus, not a lot of signs for presidential elections but the local election brings out the signs. This yard had 30 signs hidden amongst their landscaping.

This is a look around my little town today. I am very thankful to live an area of the country that does not get extreme weather. We have very mild winters and generally nice days.

On my nails today?

Lethal Injection from Wet n wild Mega Last Pick Your Poison Halloween collection. What am I dressing up for Halloween? A middle aged beauty queen, of course!

πŸ’…As always, Thanks for stopping by. What are doing for Halloween?

Congratulations to Debbie, she is the winner of the giveaway. She has been contacted and provided me with her details so giveaway if officially closed. thanks to everyone who entered. I’ll have more soon. Venique anyone?

This is a blog only giveaway. Please just leave a comment below telling me your favorite brand of nail polish. I will use random.org to pick a winner. I tried to use the Rafflecopter but it was very confusing for me. I thought it was installed properly but discovered it was not. Sorry for any confusion.

One of the prizes is this bottle of Wet n Wild Mega Last in Lethal Injection. These sold out almost immediately and I know they are hard to find. It was part of WnW Pick Your Poison for Halloween colors. I love this polish so much, it is dark but has a maroon cast to it with a shimmer running through it. The shimmer does transfer to the nail beautifully.

I just received a swap package from Nicky in Ireland and I am including 2 Barry M polishes she sent me. Red Wine which is very close to the Raspberry one she sent me and Gold Mine Glitter which is a black polish with Gold glitter. Both nice colors for this fall. Hopefully whoever wins will be happy to try the Barry M, as they are only available in the UK.

(sorry, but as a Mother I had to say that.)
So comment away, on both posts if you want. I will pick a winner this Friday Nov 2nd! I have more blog only giveaways planned so please follow my blog if you want to know about them first!

πŸ’…As always, thanks for stopping by!

For those of you new to my blog, welcome! This is a series I do every Sunday. It’s where I use a polish from my collection that I have never worn, for whatever reason. It’s a way for me to use my polish, not just look at it, but wear it. I hope this inspires you to take a look at your collection and maybe wear one you haven’t. You’d be surprised at the gem you might find!

This is Maria from Julep. I first got this in a box from Julep almost a year ago. I had swatched it and thought it was pretty but didn’t wear it for a long time. Sometime around May or June I went to put this on and it had become separated and was almost like trying to paint bubble gum onto my nails. I emailed Julep, it was a Saturday so I didn’t expect to hear from them but I got an e-mail that afternoon and in Monday’s mail was a replacement bottle of Maria. Needless to say, I was quite impressed with their customer service.

Maria is a true metallic polish, it is a rose gold, not too light and not too dark. As with all metallic polishes it can be a bit fussy to apply. It is best to use one stroke from top to bottom and only one coat. Just to get my nails painted properly for this post, it took almost a half bottle of polish. Yes, Julep’s bottles are small, .27 ounces, but that should tell you how many times I would have to remove and start over on a nail. If I had to do any kind of going back over to smooth over it would become a gummy mess. There are still visible brush strokes that I thought a top coat of Seche-Vite would hide.

Although this isn’t my favorite polish because of the application, it is a pretty polish and I will wear it for a few days because I probably won’t be wearing this one again. I particularly wanted a pink polish for this series because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. October is almost over but I still wanted to wear pink to honor those who have been afflicted with this disease, those who have lost their loves to this disease and especially for those who have fought and won the battle against this terrible disease. Every time I wear pink, no matter the month, it is in “their” honor.

Please check out my previous post. I am giving away these 3 bottles of nail polish using Random.org. Leave a comment on the other post, tell me your favorite brand of nail polish and I will use random.org to pick a winner. Fingers crossed!

πŸ’…As always, thanks so much for stopping by!

This is Toxic Apple from the Wet n Wild Pick Your Poison Halloween collection. This was a small collection of 6-7 polishes that was released early in October. The collection sold out almost immediately. Part of why people had a hard time finding it was because the stores carrying it had it displayed in their Halloween sections of their stores. That is where I finally found the 3 that I have. I have an extra Lethal Injection because my sweet friend Erica knew I didn’t have it yet and she sent me one, so now I have 2. I will give that one away, but more about that later.
This is what Lethal Injection looks like.

And Venomous Vixen

The thing I love about this polish is the shimmer you see in the bottle transfer to the nail. That doesn’t happen very often and rarely does it happen even with a higher end polish. This is what the collection looked like.

This picture is courtesy of my Twitter friend Jeanette, she lives in Germany and she wanted all the colors of the collection, in fact she wanted 2 of the green color. I think between myself and Erica we did find all that she was looking for.

I am going to give away this one bottle of Lethal Injection using Random.org.
Good Luck everyone! πŸ’…As always thanks for stopping by!
** Updated ~ I added 2 bottles of Barry M polish to this drawing! So now you can win 3 bottles of polish! Yea!

UPDATED: The Rafflecopter was not very cooperative, I’ve never used it before and thought it would be easy but it’s not so I took it off. Please, just leave a comment and I will pick a winner using random.org. Sorry for any confusion. 😍

For the past several months I have been haunting the site http://www.influenter.com. Why? You may ask? Influenster is a program where you can try new products. This has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I would always send my name in from the back of the movie magazines to become a ‘secret shopper’ or to be one of the first to try a new lipstick or any other newfandangled idea. So when I heard about Influenster, my heart literally skipped a beat. This would be perfect for me.

Then I started seeing videos on You Tube where these people were receiving these great boxes full of new and interesting products that of course, I was dying to try.

I kept going to their website and collecting badges. I had a badge for being a Mom, for having Facebook friends, for being on Twitter for writing this blog, for making you tube videos, for having a dog, you name I had a badge for it. After all, you don’t get to be my age and not had those experiences. But still no love from Infuenster.. πŸ˜ͺ
Until the other day I received a special email from them asking me to go their site and fill out one more survey. I will be honest in that I wasn’t all that excited about filling out yet again another survey but I did it any way. At the end of the survey they said Thank You very much, blah, blah blah……
Right then I decided that I was probably never going to hear from the again and was about to give up but then one fine day the clouds partedπŸ’¨and the sun came out 😍 and I received the email from influenster that they picked me, ME to test a new product. All I knew about the product is it was a new dish washing soap and it was very secretive. We’re talking Def Con 5, Level 6 clearance secretive. I was so happy to have finally been chosen and not a word was spoken about it. Not here on my beloved blog, not on my YouTube channel, not on Twitter, no where in any of my many, many text messages did I mention my good fortune.

And then yesterday this beautiful box arrived. I was so excited I could hardly breathe. Inside the box were three(3) very neatly packaged bottles of a new dish washing liquid, which I am happy to say I can finally tell you about.
To see my You Tube video of me opening my first box click here
The new dish washing liquid is called ULTRA Palmolive FRESH INFUSIONS. One is infused with Lemon & Thyme, there is a Ginger & White Tea and my favorite Lime & Basil. They also included coupons for $1.50 off on any one 16oz Palmolive Fresh Infusions Dish Liquid.

My instructions are to share 2 bottles with friends and to give coupons to others who are interested. If you would like a coupon, please let me know in the comments I will gladly send you one. My friends have already glommed spoken up for the dish soap.

I am excited to try this dish soap out and to give feed back for it to Influenster but I’m more excited about being part of the Influenster family and maybe someday, some bight day when angels are singing πŸ‘ΌπŸŽΆπŸ‘ΌπŸŽΆ I will receive a box full of beauty products! Oh, be still my pounding heart! πŸ’—πŸ’—

If you want to be a part of this program go to Influenster here and register with them. Be sure to sign up for all the different badges they offer. It’s my understanding, the more badges you collect you get points and of course the more points you have, the better.

πŸ’…as always, thanks for stopping by.

Live and Let Die from OPI’s new Skyfall collection. Gosh, this is a pretty nail polish. It’s times like this I wish I had a better camera so I can show how pretty this nail polish really is.
It is so hard to describe other than a dark green cream polish with multi colored micro crystals throughout. It is not glitter-y, it is not sparkle-y, but it has these flecks of micro crystal colors.
I used my magnifying glass to look at the crystals and I see white, light green almost lime colored green, pink which is more copper-y and gold.

The micro flecks of color do transfer to the nail. I used a top coat of Seche-Vite which made the dark green even darker but did not completely hide the micro flecks. This is a gorgeous polish, perfect for this fall and coming into winter.

This is one coat. You know I always use 2 coats when reviewing a polish, but this polish is so rich in color and the formula is a tad on the thick side that one coat was perfect. So far, from the Skyfall collection I have this one and I have Casino Royale. I’m quickly becoming more in like with OPI as the days go by.
PLEASE NOTE: The following pictures were not taken by me. These are from the OPI website. You can find these pictures at http://www.opi.com/skyfall

Again, these pictures were not taken by me, they are from the OPI website. I just wanted to show you the full collection from OPI Skyfall. There is a picture missing, and that is the top coat. The top coat has flakes of real gold and is stunningly beautiful. My friend Erica ordered a bottle from me and it was all I could do to keep from opening it myself! But I didn’t, I was a good girl. When Erica showed me a picture of it, I knew then I would have to have one for myself. The top coat is expensive $25, but I think it is well worth the price. When you think a CHANEL polish is creeping up towards $28, it really isn’t so bad. Which of the Skyfall is your favorite? I must say I’m loving my Live and Let Die and Casino Royale as well. I’m pretty sure i will get the topcoat, and On Her Majesty’s Service. They are all stunning and I don’t think you could make a bad choice!
If you would like to buy from me please let me know. The OPI are $8.50 with free shipping in the US. Of course the top coat is $25. Any China Glaze polish you are wanting? I can get it for you at $6.50, Venique is $7. All with FREE SHIPPING in the US. It would seriously make my day if you order from me!! Not just the Skyfall collection, but any OPI, China Glaze or Venique! πŸ™πŸ’ƒπŸŽΆπŸŽΆπŸŒŸπŸ’—πŸ˜πŸ˜˜πŸŽˆπŸ‘»πŸ†’

I am going to continue to admire my gorgeous nails! This is such a pretty color!

I had to show you these earrings sent to me by a subscriber. They are an X and an O from an old typewriter. I always sign my comments xoxo, so these are fitting for me. Thank you Kathy, that was so sweet of you to think of me. I adore them and will wear them and think what a sweet heart you are! 😘
πŸ’…As always, thanks for stopping by. Please let me know what you picked up from the Skyfall collection, whether you got it from me or not. I really want to know what you got! Thanks!

I’m just a girl that cannot pass up a good mushroom color. And this is a good one. Berlin There Done That from the OPI Germany collection is an interesting nude? I don’t know if I would call it nude, more of a mushroom with a hint of purple undertone. Very similar to my favorite Commander in Chic, also Merino Cool from Essie, Wet Cement from Wet n Wild Mega Last, you guys know the drill. Berlin There Done That is OPI installation of this great color.

Berlin There Done That is a fitting name for the day I’ve been having, as you can see, I dropped, again my favorite blush, Flamingo by Sleek. Dang it! The thing is this is from Sleek. Sleek is only available in the UK. I couldn’t drop, over and over, a Wet n Wild blush, could I? Nope. Had to be the Sleek.
PissFuckShitDamnHellFuckingallto HellFuckMeRunning Shit the Bed/em>;

Okay, I’m done. Once again I soaked the broken pieces of the blush in alcohol and once again I’m sure it will be fine. I just can’t believe I did it again!. For full details on how to repair broken powder blush compacts.
Anyway,on to more interesting things.
Haute Look is having a great sale on Orly nail polish mini’s. They are $2.50 each and I just checked the site and they have a lot of great colors remaining. Fowl Play being one of them. I really like the idea of the mini bottle for nail polish because really, when was the last time you used a full bottle of polish? The only thing about the mini bottles I don’t like is the brush, but I have that problem solved. Take which ever brush you like, clean it well with nail polish remover, use this brush in your mini bottle of $2.50 polish that you love. When you are done, again clean the brush with nail polish remover really well, add back to its rightful bottle and there you go. You have a mini bottle of a beautiful color that you didn’t spend a fortune for and you didn’t have to use the little bitty brushes. Although it has been brought to my attention **cough**Diana, **cough** that some of you like the little bitty brushes. Either way it’s a win win. I’m not sure how long the Orly ‘event’ will last, they usually don’t go for long but I wanted to let you know about it as I did order a few myself.

Really? This is the scene at my Shopko store as of yesterday. I wandered into the back looking for Halloween items and this is what my eyes were assaulted with. I think it’s a tad too early. What do you guys think?

πŸ’…As always thanks so much for stopping by.
