CHANEL Azure Dupe

Posted on: May 27, 2013

CHANEL Azure on the left and Julep Megan on the right are dead on dupes of each other. I know from the picture of the bottles they don’t look to be exact, but they are. The formula for the CHANEL is a lot better than the formula on the Julep. If you do not add enough polish onto the Julep brush to paint your nail, it becomes something like trying to paint gum onto your nails. Of course, the CHANEL formula does not do that.

These are both painted with 2 coats of polish and as you can see they are identical to each other. The only difference being price. I broke the price down per ounce, because the Julep bottle holds so little polish it wouldn’t be fair to compare $27 to a $14 bottle of Julep. CHANEL polish come in .4 ounce bottles. Julep polish comes in .27 ounce bottles. The per ounce price breaks down to CHANEL at $67.50 per ounce and Julep at $51.85 per ounce.
So yes, they are dupes to each other but for such a small difference in the ounce per price, I’d take the CHANEL over a Julep any day.

💅 As always, thanks for stopping by!

You can’t beat a Chanel!Love it.

Judi, you’re the best nail polish detective out there! 😉 I no longer buy Chanel since striving to go cruelty-free, but I agree…I would take Chanel over Julep, too. ♥

I admire your choice to go cruelty free, it’s so hard to tell because there is so much conflicting information. According to the PETA website Zoya is not cruelty free and is listed as a company that does animal testing, and I know you like and purchase Zoya. I went to a different website about vegan products and again Zoya was not listed as a vegan product. Nubar was though, so I was surprised about that because they are only 3 free, not 5 free as Zoya. PETA says that just because a polish is 3-5 free does not make it vegan or cruelty free. I really do admire you and so many others taking the pledge to go cruelty free as no one wants to hurt any animals for the sake of cosmetics, cleaning supplies or any other personal care products. It’s a hard road to navigate but I try to stick with what PETA and the CCI (Commission on Cosmetic Ingredients) go by. The CCI is an international organization and I have found their information to be more trust worthy than other sites I’ve read. For instance, did you know ALL nail polish contains formaldehyde even when they say formaldehyde free? If it is less than 2% they don’t have to list it as a ingredient. Back to CHANEL, it was not listed on either list. They said that is because they are in the process of re-categorizing the brand because of recent changes that have been made to the brand. Essie is another one, used to be listed as cruelty free but now not on either list. Anyway, I could go on forever about this subject, you know I am an animal lover just like you are and I think the US should do what the UK did years ago and make it illegal to sell products that have been tested on animals. That would certainly make it easier! Thanks for the comment Lu! 💜💜💜

Hey Judi! Thanks for your extremely thoughtful response! Let me start off by saying that while I think that PETA does wonderful work in all areas of animal rights, their lists of Tests/Does Not Test(for me) leaves a lot to be desired and I don’t use them as my buying guide. I say that mostly because my definition of “does not test” doesn’t exactly meet with theirs. The way I view it is if the parent company tests, then – that’s testing. Like Essie…they say they don’t test, but they are now owned by L’Oreal who is a tester, so Essie is no longer an option for me. Same thing with OPI; while they say they don’t test, they were acquired by Coty who is a tester, so I no longer buy OPI. With Chanel, I couldn’t really get a straight answer when I contacted them a couple years ago, so I quit buying. That has happened a lot. If I contact a company and they can’t give me an answer that is clear or if I feel like they’re trying to bullshit me, I just don’t buy from that company. That’s why I end up using the same cosmetics companies: Tarte, Too Faced, Wet n Wild, Physician’s Formula, NYX and Laura Geller and use products like Dr Bronner’s and Paul Mitchell. Regarding Zoya: if they are on PETA’s Do Test list, PETA got that one wrong. I have contacted Zoya personally (granted…it’s been a couple years) and they assured me they did not test and never would. The sites and blogs that I look to for good info all say that Zoya is cruelty-free; not to mention the “cruelty free” beauty YouTubers who use Zoya. I did know about the Formaldehyde thing, but thanks for mentioning it. You’re so right about there being so much confusing information out there and it’s sad that companies can’t be straight with us instead of saying “we only test if required by law”. Well, lemme tell ya, it’s NOT required by law in the U.S., so I don’t know who they’re trying to fool. Anyway, Leaping Bunny is one of the many places I look to for good info (although there aren’t a ton of companies that are Leaping Bunny certified). It’s a lot of work, but totally worth it to me to know that I’m in no way contributing to the torture of animals. I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to blather on about it, though. I don’t really talk about it much because it’s a personal choice and I would never want to push my beliefs on anyone. In case you were wondering, I have been a vegetarian for about 5 years and just recently, I’m making a slow attempt to become vegan. I no longer buy leather shoes, purses, wallets or any accessory made with or from leather or suede. Thanks again for your kind response. You’re the BEST! ♥

I agree with you completely Lu. I do not go strictly by what PETA says and I think the Leaping bunny organization is the one organization that thoroughly checks out the companies that say they don’t test on animals. But what they are saying is, their finished product is not tested on animals, they are not taking into account the ingredients used and those suppliers testing on animals. The Leaping Bunny checks the suppliers. I look for the Leaping Bunny and after I replied to you last night I took my loupe and looked at all my nail polish. Nubar And butter London were the only ones with both the bunny and the leaping bunny. Zoya does not have a bunny or a leaping bunny anywhere. I think a lot of these companies, nail polish and other make up brands say they don’t test, when really the supplies they used are tested. It makes my heart actually hurt at the thought of a poor helpless animal being harmed, as I’m sure it does yours. I think we are on the same page and I love your comments, I always learn something from you. As a side note, CHANEL, Estée Lauder, and even L’Oreal have put out statements saying they do not and never will do animal testing, and if their suppliers do, they have no control over that. The Leaping Bunny is no where on their packaging. I wish Nubar was more available to me, especially after seeing the leaping bunny on their bottles! Love you, Lu! Thanks again!

Betty’s Blog

I have been a busy dog because my Mom has this new seizure disorder and its up to me to keep her home when she needs to. I also let her know when it's time to take me for my walk, my neighbors like me too.
My mom won't let me leave the yard but the other day I had to wake mom up and take her outside so she could call 911 for the neighbor lady who was having a heart attack. The firemen tried to take me with them but my mom, and I,, both said no.
It's starting to warm up and we have lots of birds and squirrels,. My mom doesn't like me chasing the squirrels, or the birds because we have a nest in one of the trees. She said we have to be quiet. Maybe I can send you a pic of the baby birds? I'll try.
Have a happy spring, my mom and are going to!
Love, Betty
