My MAC Lipstick Collection with Swatches

Posted on: August 15, 2013

There are a few things on my mind these days. One is the use of animal testing for nail polish and which nail polish companies actually do animal testing and which nail polish companies do not do animal testing. The information is so overwhelming and so contradictory,I can’t even begin to tell you, so I decided to stop and let this one simmer a bit. It doesn’t mean I still don’t have questions, like If Zoya nail polish is indeed a company that does no animal testing why no bunny or leaping bunny logo on their bottles? When I searched the company site for vegan, 6 polishes came up, I was told that’s because those are the 6 that are vegan? I read somewhere today that Wet n Wild is a cruelty free product, it’s made in China? China insists on animal testing for cosmetics so how can that be? It breaks my heart that information like that is out there 💔 Leaping Bunnie Logo indicates the company and their suppliers do not do animal testing. So why no logo on brands that have the image of being cruelty free? Those are the kinds of questions I wish I knew the answer to. But, I will let this simmer a bit, until I can find an answer, I’m not so sure I ever will. But, I am always happy to see a Leaping Bunny or a Bunny Logo on a bottle of nail polish. 💜💜

Okay, back to MAC. I made a funny and I didn’t even mean to! Ha! These are my MAC lipsticks:

These are what they look like swatched on my arm:

I bought another one today, I think it is Viva Glam VI, I am happy to buy these lipsticks because 100% of the purchase price goes to the MAC Aids Foundation (MAF). The purchase of just one lipstick does so much good, it provides:
18 personal birthday cakes delivered to a PLWA on his or her birthday

8 individual tailored nutritious home cooked meals for PLWA (Person Living With Aids)

2 emergency boxes filled with non-perishable food

15 copies of eating well with HIV/AIDS booklets

1 weeks worth of groceries, aout 4 bags, of food for 2 clients

14 blood glucose monitoring strips

37 deliveries of dietetically sound meals

1 private therapeutic recreation session for 1 client

I hospitality kit with hygiene and grooming essentials for a client in a housing program

1 pair of shoes for a child orphaned by AIDS

1 vegetable seed starter packs for a community garden

1 party pack for a child to celebrate Christmas, Easter, and their birthdays. (Of course if not Christian they have packets for other celebrations as well)

1 month of public transport for a woman to travel to and from Doctor visits

2 hours of child care for the woman to travel to the Dr appointments

1 counseling session for a woman who is HIV positive

2 safer sex kits (condoms, lube, dental dams, etc…) and information

1 HIV prevention workshop co ducted by a peer health educator

23 condoms or 23 female condoms

1 rapid rate HIV test

1 monthly medication planner to help a person manage their treatment regimine

All of the above are provided because of one purchase of a tube of lipstick

MAC the cult Canadian brand created in 1985 has always been fearless and outspoken and when it comes to the Viva Glam message it has always been loud and clear. The Mac Aids Foundation (MAF) is overseen by a Board of Directors who all come from a varied walk of life. Some are bankers, some are teachers, some are health care providers, the one thing they have in common is a commitment to use the funds of MAF for people who need it the most. The least enfranchised. All are not afraid to go places others have been afraid to go, places where the help is needed the most. These people and communities are the ones at the highest risk and they are totally off the radar, until now.
MAF funds are innovative in funding programs that deal directly with the most marginalized, stigmatized and un-heard victims. MAF celebrates humanity life creativity and individuality, making a difference, one Viva Glam Lipstick at a time. Like I said I ordered a Viva Glam lipstick today, I believe I ordered Viva Glam VI. I’m not sure, I don’t really care if its a color that works for me or not. When I have a few extra $$$ I will buy a Viva Glam lipstick because unlike the issue of the animal testing, I know exactly where and how this money will be used.

I know I’m on a “soap box” today, but these are so e of the things I think about. I know the animal testing is a touchy subject to say the least, and I know the people and children, living with HiV/AIDS is not a problem that can be fixed over night. Neither one of these issues can. But it is nice to know there are people and organizations that care about these issues. So no ore “soap box” from me, I promise. Back to NOTD tomorrow. I have a really pretty one too!

💅As always, thanks for stopping by.

Hurray for MAC and other Canadian brands. What a good cause Judi.Let’s try to help sick people and furry creatures.Linda xo

Yes, let’s! (At first I read that, lets all help sick people and creat furry friends). I thought what that don’t make no sense so I read it again. I think we all need to buy a viva glam lipstick, when you need lipstick, or not, and look for the leaping bunny on all your nail polish which is what I’m doing lately And will continue to do.

Oh yes…animal testing…don’t get me started. You know I’ve asked Zoya on more than occasion (because that’s how I roll) if they have applied for or considered applying for Leaping Bunny status and do you know, I’ve never received a response on that issue. They’ve answered every question I’ve asked except the Leaping Bunny thing. As I understand it, there’s no fee involved in being LB approved, so I just don’t understand why they don’t do it! *sigh*

I agree about MAC and their Viva Glam line; SUCH great work! I did stop buying MAC though, because while they don’t test on animals, they’re owned by Mother Lauder who is a tester.

Stepping off my soap box…

This is a great post, Judi. I do not know why cosmetics have to be confusing. I tried to find out which companies used lead in their lipsticks, and I just went around in circles. It seems that some lipsticks within a company have lead and some don’t. Egad. Keep up the good work!

It’s definitely a conundrum, and I get so tired of the conflicting reports from the same company I could pull my hair out! I know they don’t think we are very smart, because I’ve been told that but I am a woman on a mission and God help the person who gets in the way. I think every woman knows what I’m talking about.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.

Betty’s Blog

I have been a busy dog because my Mom has this new seizure disorder and its up to me to keep her home when she needs to. I also let her know when it's time to take me for my walk, my neighbors like me too.
My mom won't let me leave the yard but the other day I had to wake mom up and take her outside so she could call 911 for the neighbor lady who was having a heart attack. The firemen tried to take me with them but my mom, and I,, both said no.
It's starting to warm up and we have lots of birds and squirrels,. My mom doesn't like me chasing the squirrels, or the birds because we have a nest in one of the trees. She said we have to be quiet. Maybe I can send you a pic of the baby birds? I'll try.
Have a happy spring, my mom and are going to!
Love, Betty
