Ciate Very Colourfoil Manicure ~ Review

The Ciate color foil kit comes in this box. QVC clearance section has them on sale 2 kits for $24.95. I paid $9 for my kit as Ciate is now carried at the place I buy my nail polish. The kit comes with a full size Ciate paint pot, a small bottle of glue, a packet of foils in different colors and a swatching wheel. I think the swatching wheel is for practice? I’m not sure why that was in there but hey, I can always use a swatching wheel. The instructions come in about a dozen languages and the print is so small I needed a magnifying glass to read, even Drew said he couldn’t read it so I know it’s not my old eyes.

Kiss Chase from Ciate painted using 2 coats, no top coat. The formula is nice, easy to apply. I had no issues with the brush and it dried pretty quick. The bottle is cute and I love the little black ribbon around the neck. Once your nails are dry the directions say to dot randomly onto your nail where you want the foil to go. I think the glue is just plain ol’ Elmer’s glue. Once the glue starts to turn clear then you press the sheet of foil, shiny side up onto your nail, pull the foil off immediately. You keep doing this until you get a look you like.

This is what I ended up with on my left hand. My right hand was a little different as I added more blue than green. But they all looked pretty much the same – messy. Messy is not good.
Once you have a look you like (?) you add a top coat so it will wear better. If you ask me, that’s a good reason not to add a topcoat. I added several topcoats only because I did not like the rough feel of my nails with the foil on them. But they were still rough after 3-4 applications of topcoat. I did wear these for a day but they had to come off before I went to bed. I knew they would bug me and I would start picking at them.
I’m sure you can tell I am no fan of the Ciate Colourfoil Manicure Kits but for $9 I was happy to try them and I will give them another try one day. They might not be too bad as an accent nail, or maybe for a Halloween party. I am really curious if any of you have tried this kit? Please let me know what you think of it in the comments below. I’d love to know if you loved it or hated it.

Ciate has a bad reputation when it comes to nail bloggers and I’m no different as I feel the same way as the people they insulted. A couple of years ago when Ciate came out with their caviar manicure kits, which were priced at $25 for a bottle of polish and some micro beads. It didn’t take long for crafty DIY nail bloggers to come up with their own version of the caviar manicure using beads from Michael’s and JoAnn’s Fabric for a cost of less than $5. Ciate was po’d by this and actually sent cease and desist letters to several bloggers. If you ever wondered why Ciate isn’t featured more on nail blogs, that is why. I don’t blame the bloggers who received the letters for being mad over it. It’s really too bad because I think Ciate is a good quality polish, their bottles are adorable and I love, love, love, my Ciate mini mani advent calendar, but I don’t think I would buy this brand on a regular basis because of what they did. I will buy it if its on sale for a good price. Ciate’s niche seems to be the type of things DIY people do all the time, as mentioned earlier the caviar manicure, the velvet manicure, and they have a feather kit. All these things are available at the craft stores for a fraction of the price. I think Ciate has ceased and desisted with the letters and hopefully we can all get along.

👑 As always, thanks for stopping by!

Betty’s Blog

I have been a busy dog because my Mom has this new seizure disorder and its up to me to keep her home when she needs to. I also let her know when it's time to take me for my walk, my neighbors like me too.
My mom won't let me leave the yard but the other day I had to wake mom up and take her outside so she could call 911 for the neighbor lady who was having a heart attack. The firemen tried to take me with them but my mom, and I,, both said no.
It's starting to warm up and we have lots of birds and squirrels,. My mom doesn't like me chasing the squirrels, or the birds because we have a nest in one of the trees. She said we have to be quiet. Maybe I can send you a pic of the baby birds? I'll try.
Have a happy spring, my mom and are going to!
Love, Betty
