Archive for September 2014

Unfortunately I do not receive actual samples from Essie for review but I do receive an email with a heads up for their new collections. The following is their new Fall 2014 Collection.

The funny thing is, I have on 6 different Essie polishes as I’m working on a road test for this brand now.

I guess I’m good enough to write about the new colors and to write stories about my personal experience with Essie, but just not good enough to receive samples for review. Hmm, makes one think.

Early in the summer I decided that the Summer of 2014 would be my year to have a ‘signature color’ of blue for my nails. (Those of you who are “Steel Magnolia” fans will totally get the reference. For the others, I’m sorry, Watch the movie!
One of the other things I played around with was multiple color manicures. Not just 2 colors as in my half and half mani but using 3 colors and I must say, I really like it!
Here are a few, please let me know what you think? I’m anxious if these are a yay or a nay, in your opinion.

This happens to be my favorite using American Apparel polish.
So, what did you think? Please let me know in the comments below.

On this day of September 11th I will always remember and always thank the brave men and women who are fighting for our freedoms yet today.
This day started like any other for me, which was getting up at 5 so I could have my son fed and ready to practice football. This time of year they do what is called doubles, a practice before school and one after. The car radio is how we heard the news. I will never forget the banging sound on the radio broadcast and wondering what it was. It sounded like 200 pound bags of wheat being dropped. When I got home and turned on the TV I learned it was bodies hitting the sidewalk. Either those who had died or those who jumped. To this day my heart is broken for those families. Never again will I take my family for granted. Or the great men and women of our armed forces. Thanks to each and every one of you, active duty members and those who have served their time.

I was sent this Nail 999 Rescue System to review. As my nails are in pretty good shape I wanted to test it on nails that were in need of rescuing. This is where my girl Ashley comes in. If you’ve read my blog at all, you know my girl Ashley.

(I use this picture as often as possible as it makes me look sooo, sooo skinny!)
Okay, so back to the system. Ashley moved to Tennesee, excuse the tears at this point, and she is not allowed to wear nail polish where she works. I for one would have to find another job, but that’s me. She was telling me about her nails were chipping and splitting so I sent this system to her. I asked her to follow the directions included, which she did.
After a few weeks of use, I received this text from her:

I think Ashley would agree with me that this Nail 999 Rescue System is a winner. Ashley has used the products pretty consistently for 2-3 weeks and will continue. I’ll update you when I hear more from her. I think her nails look great and if she continues with this system I have no doubt her nail issues will be no more.
I’m so happy the butter LONDON worked for her, now if I can figure out how to get her to move back to Idaho I’ll be a happy camper!
A special thank you to Ashley for your help with this and a thank you to butter LONDON for making such a great product.

I love and adore this polish. The color is perfect for me as an everyday, go anywhere color. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure (CSM) has been formulated with a base coat and a top coat built in. So, there is no need for these. I did not use a base coat for my Road Test but I did however use my Nail Envy from OPI which is always on my nails.

Sally Hansen Pink Pong has been chosen for my first Road Test. I painted 2 thin coats as suggested on the Sally Hansen website and no top coat. No need for a top coat as with the CSM line it is included in the formula. I think my nails look great on Day 1! What do you think?

It wasn’t until Day 5 that the slightest bit of tip wear began to show. My ring finger and pointer finger has the tiniest amount of tip wear, but for me, this is livable.

What a difference a day makes. Day 6 marked the arrival of tip wear on all nails. The pinky nail was especially bad. I did remove Pink Pong on Day 6 but to be fair there are a few things I will do different next time. I think my coats were a little too thin, and I will make each coat a bit thicker.
You have to admit that even though there is slight tip wear, it’s not that bad. I could have worn this for a few days longer. I could have easily worn for 10 days or more.

So is the Sally Hansen CSM Pink Pong worthy of a Road Test?. My answer, heck yea!
I hope you agree with me and if you haven’t tried the CSM line from Sally Hansen it’s well worth it. Sally Hansen CSM can be found in most drug stores and retails for $7.99. Look for sales as there is usually a sale on these. (a little tip from me to you: if you shop at Walgreen’s ask the check out person for coupons. They have a ton in their drawer and are happy to share).

If there is a certain polish you would like me to “Road Test” for you, please let me know. I would love to know what polish you are curious about the wear time, etc….

Happy 98th (yes 98th) Birthday to my Father-in-Law, Dick. He is an awesome person, a great Dad and the greatest Grandpa to my kids. Although I am divorced from his son, I will never be divorced from him. He was a pilot in WWII, flew B52s, was shot down in Germany and survived 18 months in a German prison camp.
If ever I’m feeling sorry for myself I think of Dick and some of his stories. The Germans were not nice to their prisoners. About every 10 days a dump truck would pull into camp and dump garbage. This was their food. One story that sticks with me is about the priest that was encamped with them. The priest had snuck in a communion wafer and in the middle of the night he would give communion to those who wanted it. As we are all Catholic, Dick would partake. He said the priest would flake the smallest amount from this one and only wafer they had for his communion. That small amount of wafer kept him full. Dick said he wouldn’t be hungry for a few days after communion.
I could go on and on, but I won’t. I’m just so happy he is still with us. He is the baby of his Irish family of 10. He was so happy to get his driver’s license renewed for 4 more years. Oh, I forgot to mention the youngest any of his siblings died (except for 2 accidents) was 102.

For some reason I decided this summer my ‘signature’ color would be blue. This started me on a blue journey that, although I had on blue nail polish, my summer was anything but blue.

This was the beginning of my summer blues. I have always thought the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure formula to be one of the best drug store brands. I’ve long wondered why they called Gray by Gray this name when it is clearly a blue polish, as evident in these pictures. Anyone agree with me, or is it just me? Seeing blue instead of gray?

The next round of summer blue came with these L’Oreal polishes, again a great drug store brand. Notting Hill Blue has long been a favorite, so much so that I don’t wear it very often as I want to savor what I have left of it.

Just to shake things up a bit, I did wear a bright pink from Rimmell called Posh Pink. It was fun for a change.

Back to the Summer of Blue ~ 2014 with this gorgeous Sally Hansen CSM in Please Sea Me. This was sent to me as a PR sample for review. I was not asked to comment on this one but it is so, so pretty I couldn’t help myself. It is a gorgeous polish and has been formulated with their new gel like formula which increased wear time considerably.

This is another polish sent to me for review from Pacifica.. Pacifica is a 7-free, vegan 100% cruelty free company. If you have not tried them as yet please check them out. This polish went on smooth and wore like iron.

That was pretty much it for my Summer of Blues ~ 2014. It was actually a lot of fun for me and gave me a chance to wear my blue polish which I seem to have an abundance of! Maybe because my eyes are so blue?

What do you think?
