Purple Passion from Estรฉe Lauder was part of a 4 piece ‘Coffret’ I purchased from Nordstrom for just under $21. I’ve had this polish on for less than 24 hours, no I have not been digging ditches or any manual labor except for a couple of loads of laundry and grocery shopping. Yet my nails look like heck.
Estรฉe Lauder nail polish is one of my favorite brands, the full size bottles sell for $21 (.3 oz). The formula is creamy and smooth. Usually full coverage is achieved with one coat. The bottle is adorable, the brush is great and the colors are different. Smashed from EL was named by Allure magazine as the best nail color of 2012. I tell you all this so you can understand my disappointment with the performance of this polish. ๐Ÿ˜ง

Disappointment aside I am happy with this set of 4 polishes. The bottles are small, .17 oz but the brush is still normal. The 4 colors are Smashed, Black Plum, Purple Passion and So Vain. Priced at just over $5 for each bottle makes this a great buy. If Nordstrom offers this set again, I will most definetly buy.

FINAL THOUGHTS: for Purple Passion from Estรฉe Lauder ? I really like this color. The formula was very rich and smooth, easy to apply. I ‘wrapped’ my tips as I planned on wearing for a few days, but even so you can see the tip wear in less than 24 hours is unacceptable. I know from past experience that the Estรฉe Lauder brand is better than this and I realize that polish performs different on different people. I would not let this deter you from trying this polish, especially with this little kit. ๐Ÿ˜

๐ŸŒท Today was a gorgeous day, dare I say spring like? (We will probably have snow tomorrow). I noticed my daffodils are coming up and there are some buds on my rosรฉ bushes. ๐ŸŒธ. It won’t be long now! I hope you are having perfect days now and always!

After Party from Revlon is part of a Gucci Westman collection released sometime late 2012. Gucci Westman is a famous make up artist and now a cosmetic artist. She was hired by Revlon as Global Artistic Director and to collaborate on their make up lines. I must say that in the past couple of years I have noticed an increased interest in the make up offered from Revlon. Their eyeshadows, blushes and mascara seem to be more useable and fresh then they used to be. I have never been one to buy Revlon make up but this spring I did buy a cream blush that I completely used up. So I must have liked it, considering I have a dozen or so blushes in my make up drawer! Ha!
I’m curious, have you noticed Revlon make up has gotten better? Worse? Or the same?

After Party from Revlon is a blue green color that reminded me of the little blue spruce tree in my Dad’s front lawn. My brother Jim got this tree for them when they first moved back from Maui about 10 years ago. It hasn’t grown much and at times I thought it was a goner, but it’s still standing.

Sorry, I digress! Back to the polish. After Party has no number so we know that means its not part of Revlon’s regular line and probably has been re-promoted with a different name. I have looked in all the stores in my area to see if I could identify the one in their core line, but no luck.
I usually am not very fond of green nail polish, but this one has enough blue in it that it may be one of my new favorites. The formula, brush etc… was classic Revlon.

These pictures are all 2 coats with a coat of Seche-Vite. I could have easily got by with 1 coat, but out of habit I did 2. Within a day there was noticeable tip wear, (see pointer finger) but I think that was operator error and not the fault of the polish. Next time I will “wrap the tips” and that should take care of that problem.

UPDATE: I am still at my Dad’s house while he is in Hawaii. I will be home Friday, YAY!! I miss my home and my nail polish. Which I know sounds weird but some of you will “get” what I’m talking about. ๐Ÿ˜˜

I knew I wanted to do a lighter color this time as the last 2 Barry M I’ve featured we’re black and navy. But I couldn’t make up my mind so I used my half and half manicure (I still think I invented this as I’ve never seen it before anywhere) but that is beside the point. I think these 2 colors look great together. The lighter blue is Barry M TURQUOISE and the lighter blue is Barry M CYAN BLUE.

The formula for Barry M is perfect, IMO, goes on smooth with great coverage. The brush is a smaller brush a lot like the Nails, INC or Revlon brushes, they are easy to maneuver. These pictures are with 2 coats and no top coat.

This is a mirror image showing that these 2 colors match my brush holder from Pucci fabric. Pucci is one of my all time favorite designers and paired with my all time favorite nail polish, makes me happy! Happy is good!

Quick Jeanius by Sally Hansen Insta-Dri for Rent the Runway LE is a navy blue, quick drying, one coat wonder. Coverage was complete with just one coat. I don’t know exactly how fast it dried but it does dry fast which makes the end result a gorgeous manicure in a gorgeous navy blue. My favorite color to wear and to wear on my nails.

Quick Jeanius is part of Sally Hansen’s limited edition Rent the Runway collection. I found mine at Walgreen’s and I’m so glad I got it because the display was all but empty. If I find more in this collection, I will def let you know. The Insta-Dri formula is smooth, a little bit thicker than other SH lines but worth it because of the one coat coverage. The brush is flat but smaller, not as wide, and with a longer wand it makes it easy to paint your nails.

**Note: This genius typed the wrong name on the first 2 pictures. The correct name is Quick Jeanius So sorry!

Quick Jeanius will become part of my family of nail polishes as my mother’s name was Jeanie. This bottle will have a place of honor on my family names shelf.

Have you seen any of the displays for the limited edition Rent the Runway? Let me know if you have and if you picked any of them up, I’d love to know what you think.

Just for fun: things that match my manicure, my favorite blue sweater.

This is the set of American Apparel nail polish I bought from eBay for $15.99 shipping included. I received 17 bottles of American Apparel nail polish. I am so glad I bought these, they are a great polish and especially at this price. Shipment was fast. Last I heard they were still available, so if interested search eBay for AA nail polish sets. You won’t be sorry, especially at less than $1 per bottle.

Mount Royal from American Apparel was #5 on my list of un-tried nail polish in my collection. The number generated by random.org for the Week 36 of the #NPLClub was 302 and since I don’t have 302 un-trieds I used an alternate number of 5. I’m so glad I tried this polish because it may be a new favorite, maybe so much so that it will end up in the Top 5? We will have to wait and see. This polish goes on like a dream, I could have easily stopped after 1 coat but I always use 2 coats for a polish I write about for this blog. I also used a quick dry top coat. I think it is a beautiful blue and I think it looks great on my nails. Even if I say so myself!. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Mount Royal gets 5/5 stars from me. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
The formula, dry time, brush and color saturation are perfect. No VNL even with 1 coat. It has a classic cream finish which is my favorite and I really like it. I like all the AA nail polishes I’ve tried so far. The only one I won’t wear would be the bright yellow, just because anything yellow or orange seems to clash with my skin. If any of you would like to try the yellow just let me know in the comments below and I will be happy to send to you. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Infidele from CHANEL is a kind of pink, kind of maroon, maybe a chocolate pink would be a good description of this color, as there is some brown to it, but by no means is it a brown nail polish. It’s a different color, and you know I like different. Different is good.. This is only 2 coats but I did something different this time. I layered a matte top coat between the layers of Infidele. Then I added a quick dry top coat. I don’t know if that made a difference but I know I usually need 3 coats to hide the VNL but this time I only have 2 coats. Anyway, I like it. What do you think?

The first picture was taken this morning outside, a beautiful morning today I might add. This photo was taken in the light box.
CHANEL Infidele was one of the trio of nail polishes released for Fashion’s Night Out 2013 and is no longer available. The other2 released for FNO 2013 were Provacation and Delicatasse. I was trying to find a link for you to purchase, if interested but I’m sure eBay and Amazon will have, for a lot more than the $27 I paid for it. CHANEL described Infidele as a carnation rose with undertones of mauve. That is a much better description than mine. Infidele also was formulated with a high shine finish so no top coat needed but I like the way mine looks with the sandwich of a matte top coat between layers.
The formula is classic CHANEL self leveling, easy to apply, dries pretty fast and gorgeous when on anyone’s nails. Can you tell I’m a total fan of CHANEL nail polish? That is why I started looking for dupes because not everyone can or will pay $27-30 for a nail polish. But some things are just worth it and for me, if its a unique color, it’s worth the price tag.

Infidele looks similar to some of my Revlon’s and I will try to see if any of them are a match. If they are, I will post here immediately.

This falls under the Things that Match My Manicure with this older Coach purse.
Do you have anything that would match this color? Or any of your manicures that match something, please send to me and I will post to my page Things that Match My Manicures, everyone is welcome to participate.

Some months ago, my friend Meredith showed this manicure on Twitter. I instantly told her I was copying this mani but it has taken me all these months to figure out how to do it. Here is Meredith’ gorgeous manicure

My attempt at this look. I used Royalty Re-Invented from L’Oreal and I Will from L’Oreal for this look.

What do you think? Close enough, but no cigar? I actually think they turned out pretty darn good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

This is how I did this look: I did 2 coats of I Will, let them dry completely, like overnight dry. Then I used a fine point pen to mark where I wanted the purple to go, or to NOT GO would be more accurate. I then carefully and slowly painted the purple. I used only 1 coat of the purple because I knew if they got too thick with too many coats of polish I would start picking at them. I’m a picker like that. I did use a quick dry top coat, I believe it was the one from butter London.
The formula of the L’Oreal polish is consistently good which is important for a look like this. You don’t want to be half way through and then have the top color have a terrible formula, it would never work. I like the L’Oreal nail polish line, they are affordable, have some great stand by colors but also some unique colors as well. They are an all around nail polish line. When you get a L’Oreal nail polish you know what you’re getting, not like **cough essie** cough cough, pardon me!
I Will from L’Oreal is the perfect polish to wear if you are showing off a new engagement ring, especially with a tan. I Will is one of those neutrals that flatter most skin types. I’ve seen a few images from Google search and it really does look great for most skin types. Not to mention this is the polish my own daughter wore to show off her new engagement ring!
L’Oreal is The Polish of the Month August 2013, for this little blog because I very much like the line. I have about 20 bottles of L’Oreal nail polish in my collection of 400 plus. So that is a small percent, yet L’Oreal did finish Number 5 from my Comparison Study of Nail Polish by Brand I did last summer. I’d say that gives this polish a right for a second look if you’ve passed by this brand because of some political issues.
Royalty Re-Invented although a lavender/purple is unique color in that from my collection, which is extensive I do not have any that are close to this one. I have some darker, a few lighter, but none that are the same.
It was fun trying to re-create this look, I should have taken pics of all the fails as there were many. But now I know how to do it I’m sure ill come up with some different combinations. Thanks to my friend Meredith for letting me use her picture and copy her gorgeous manicure. But then everything about Meredith is gorgeous!
