I often get asked what is the best brand of nail polish. Because of that, I have been working all summer on comparing different brands of nail polish. I compared over 3โƒฃ0โƒฃbrands of nail polish, all available in the US. Meaning this comparison of brands does not include any Barry M or other brands only available in the UK. I scored the different brands using these 5 items of criteria: brush/bottle, formula, price, dry time, and wear. These are the items that are important to me in a nail polish. When I was finished there were 3 brands that had all 5/5 stars! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
This is the complete list of polish I compared in this “study”. These are in alphabetical order

As I am writing this post the songs from “Grease” are playing on my iPod portion of my iPad. I ๐Ÿ’— love that movie. One of my very favorites. Right now it’s “๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ Summer Lovin”. ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ I must need to watch this movie again because this has been going on for a couple of days now. But anyway, back to the post, what I’ve been lovin’ all summer long, and finally picked it up last night.

20120817-122528.jpg L’Oreal Now You Sea Me.. This is a perfect blue green for me because it leans more blue than green. I really like it, I like it so much it may have a spot in my Top Ten colors, ever!.

I have wanted this polish since about mid-April. I’d seen it first on Estรฉe from EssieButtons and of course loved it on her. Then I would see it in the stores, and I don’t know why but I would pass it up. Then my You Tube friend Sandra at Makeuploverusa showed this polish and I knew I wanted it. Even then I still passed it up. Then yesterday my YouTube friend Gina at Citrushearted made a comment on Twitter that after wanting all summer, she was finally going to buy the Deborahh Lippmann polish Mermaids Dream. I too had been thinking about getting the DL polish, mostly because I need a DL polish to finish up my review of my polish by brand comparison study and I don’t feel it would be a complete comparison leaving this brand out. Small problem, it’s not sold anywhere near me, so I will probably have to go on-line to purchase. The other small problem is DL does a lot of glitter, and we all know I’m not so much for the glitter. I have been looking at Nordstrom’s site and will probably order a DL creme finish for my “study”. But I’m getting off track, again!
After Gina’s comment about buying Mermaids Dream dafter wanting all summer, Now You Sea Me came to mind for me. ๐ŸŽˆ And I had a $3 off any purchase from Walgreens so I thought, today is the day “NYSM will be mine. I went into Walgreens, straight for the polish. They have a sale, BOGO, the get one is free, so I picked up 2. These are $5.99 each. Total price at this point : $5.99 for 2. When I got up to the check stand, my favorite Beauty SA had a coupon in her pocket for $2 off any L’Oreal product. So this dropped my price to $3.99 for 2. Then I had my $3 off any purchase so the grand total for 2 bottles of polish was 99 cents. I did have to pay the sales tax on the higher prices and on both bottles so I actually paid $2.18 for those 2 bottles. Love It!

20120817-124609.jpg I love this color on me. . This is definetly the color of this summer, this turquoise blue/green. You know me, I figured I’d probably already had this color in other brands, but I don’t. ๐ŸŽ‰

This is the nail wheel with the turquoise blue-greens I own. Some are close, but not really. There is enough of a change in the color to differentiate this one from the others. From left to right the colors are: Butter London Trustafarian, Color Club Age of Aquarius, Essence Viva la Green, OPI Thanks a Windmillion, Zoya Wednesday , China Glaze For Audrey, L’Oreal NYSM, China Glaze Sea Spray, Sally Hansen Gray by Gray, and OPI I Don’t Give a Rotterdam.

โ˜€Now for my review: L’Oreal polishes generally have a thinner consistency to them, especially with the lighter colors. But as the colors get darker, the formula seems to get a little thicker. This one seemed to be a mixture of thin and thick, not an ideal formula to work with. Once I realized what was going on, after removing one hand already painted, I went back to my old stand by of thin coats. This took 2 thin coats perfectly, full coverage, no Dreaded ๐Ÿ˜กVNL and dry time was as expected. Any streaks caused by the formula were quickly fixed with a top coat of Seche-Vite.
I think this a perfect summer color and will be a good one to carry into fall. I think you could wear this color all year round, if you want to!
I give L’Oreal Now You Sea Me ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ out of 5.

Do you like this color? Are your L’Oreal items on crazy sale right now? Let me know if you pick this o e up, I do t think you will regret.

Thanks for stopping by. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’…

๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถSummer Lovin, had me a blast! ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ

I know that Pantone and Sephora have named tangerine as the color of 2012, but I think this blue-green turquoise has got to be the color of summer 2012.

This is a gorgeous turquoise, and like all Venique polishes, it goes on like glass and wears like iron. So pretty, to me this color screams summer, along with the other colors in the mini kit from Venique. I did this manicure about a week ago, from this same kit. The kit is called Color of Desire. ($14 on my Nail Polish for Sale page)

I do have a couple of other turquoise in my collection, but they are not even close to this color. I have Zoya Wednesday, and Color Club Age of Aquarious, Wednesday is much lighter and Age of Aquarious is more green. In fact I wore that for St. Patrick’s Day. It is that green.

All in all, I have enjoyed this mini kit from Venique. The colors are unique enough that I don’t have anything like them in my collection and they are spot on for this great summer of 2012. I have not used Havanah Glam as it is a copper-y, bronze-y color that usually doesn’t look so hot on my skin. Maybe as the summer goes on and I get darker, I might try it.
I know that Butter London, Venique and Zoya all follow my blog. Thank You for that. I would like to make a suggestion for the mini kits you guys sell. Would you please include a full size brush? I like the mini kits. I think they are a great way to try a polish, especially I think they are great for trendy colors, but I would freakin love them if you included a full size brush. I don’t think I have giant nails, I know they are bigger than my Mom’s, but she is a little bitty person. I am not. If you included a full size brush I could clean it with polish remover after using, if people don’t want it, they don’t have to use it. But I for one, think your sales would go up, if you included the full size brush. I cannot stand the little, teeny, tiny brushes. That has kept me from buying more than one mini set. OPI, cough, cough.

20120718-121049.jpgThis is my Mom as a little girl

. She looks exactly the same. This is another picture I like, makes me happy, so I’m including it today.

    Thank for stopping by. ๐Ÿ’…

These are all my Essie, butter London and Color Club polishes. Up front I would like to say that 2 of the butter London (Primrose Hill Picnic and Yummy Mummy) along with the Lippy were sent to me for my review by the PR firm of butter London. Thank you so much! I really appreciate!
With that being said, I must say one of my very favorite polishes of all time has to be Yummy Mummy. I adore the dirt colored polishes, and with All Hail the Queen, it’s the same dirt color but with diamonds! So, so pretty!

It’s so hard to capture the sparkle from All Hail the Queen. I love this formula, it goes on smooth, has great coverage with 2 coats and dries like glass. It’s like sand sprinkled with a million teeny diamonds under a sheet of glass! Thank you Audrey for sending to me!
From Essie I love Play Date. It is a bright purple lilac with blue/pink tones, if that makes sense?

This is Play Date with a lime green accent nail. The other favorites from Essie are Chinchilly, Merino Cool, Island Hopping and Angora Cardi. This is Angora Cardi.

I would be happy with the colors on this wheel, if these were the only polishes I had to live by.๐Ÿ˜ƒ
It a pretty แ”heel of แฉorgeousness! ๐Ÿ‘

(Can you tell I just found my emjoi keyboard function? love it!)

๐ŸŒบSo remember to Keep Calm & Paint Your Nails ๐Ÿ’…

At this years CHANEL show, the runway was set up like the inside of an airplane. All the lighting made the ‘cabin’ look blue. The clothes were all some shade of blue. The nail polish was blue. After the show, reporters asked KL why the blue? His response: “I don’t have the blues!”.

These are all my blue polishes. At first I was shocked I had so many blue. I have actually been looking at buying a couple of blue polishes because I was sure that was a color I was lacking in my collection. What? that’s what happens when you are in menopause, your brain literally feels like mush and operates like a bowl of mush. Blue mush.

The one thing that makes me happy about all these blue polishes? There is not one duplicate color amongst them!

I have talked before about Venique nail polish and how much I love it. Venique is without a doubt the best nail polish I have ever used. I love it. The only problem was finding a place to purchase, until recently.

My local beauty supply store has Venique! Yea! ๐Ÿ™‚
I am so happy! I bought a few bottles. On my nails today is Kitten Heel Slide, the darker pink and Heel d’Orsay is the lighter pink. My nails are so smooth, they feel like glass! I’m sorry the pictures aren’t better but it is a very cloudy, gloomy day out, I had a hard time getting any pictures to come out!

I think this is an awesome color, green but has just enough of a blue undertone that it looks good on my skin. This looks really blue, but in person it is more green. I received a mini bottle, .25 ounce of this Color Club polish in my new Birch Box. For those of you who don’t know, Birch Box is a monthly subscription service that for $10 a month you receive 4-5 high end deluxe samples of beauty products to try. The 4-5 deluxe high end samples is a direct quote from their website. As a subscriber I can tell you honestly that it is not usually deluxe samples and not so high end either. This month’s box was a good one, not just because they included my favorite, a new fingernail polish!
Also included in the box this month: 1) perfume sample from Harvey Princecalled Ageless. This is a small spray bottle, attached to a card, like the ones the beauty counters hand out. It is a nice perfume but it doesn’t last very long. I’m funny about perfume, I will not be buying the bigger size. 2). From Lulu Organics a lavender, clary and sage hair powder…a dry shampoo. I haven’t opened this to see what it smells like, but I can’t imagine that it smells good? 3) From One Love Organics a .5 ounce jar of skin savior waterless beauty balm. There are no directions with this but it says it is a cleanser and moisturizer completely free of fillers. It is extra concentrated therefore extra effective. On the jar it says it is hand crafted in small batches. 4) Supergoop! is a sunscreen wipe, SPF 30. I received 2 packets and I am excited to have these. I will keep them in my car. I have heard great things about this item from You Tube videos, I can’t wait to try. 5)The other thing I received was a package of tea bags from Tea Forte An anti-oxidant tea that tastes amazing and helps our skin look more radiant. I received a cherry marzipan, cucumber mint and honey yuzu tea bag. These are all green tea and are supposed to be renewing, recovering and repairing! Wow, sounds great but I don’t know…..we shall see.

This is the second box I have received from Birch Box. The first box I received, literally had nothing in it I could use. There was a sample of tinted moisturizer, body oil, a little tiny piece of chocolate and I don’t even remember what else. The tinted moisturizer and body oil were such tiny, little samples there is no way to determine if it would be a product I would like. I was not happy.
Part of Birch Box’s deal is they customize the box for each person. You take a quiz when you sign up, and from that quiz they determine which products you will get. I kept seeing all these great boxes on You Tube, full size products from Stila, Urban Decay, Essie, Beauty Blender, and then I would get my box with nothin’ but crap! I think it’s human nature to want what the other person got, and I wish they sent everyone the same thing. I didn’t realize but I guess I’m still peeved I didn’t get the beauty blender, which I STILL want one of those. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
All in all, I think this month’s box was good and I’m happy with it. I will wait and see how next months box shakes out. I really do like the idea of this and look forward to receiving every month. I just get disappointed when the samples are so teeny tiny! But, if you remember I live in Idaho and I don’t have access to fancy department stores that have all those samples, so for me it is $10 well spent. I gave Ashley a 3 month subscription for Christmas and I think she likes it too. She is 26, and she does get different items from me. Ashley has received three boxes and out of those three she has a Zoya polish in Lotus (mini) and this month she got a full size Essie, the new luxe effects in white sparkle. So I guess their customization thing really does work! If interested in Birch Box, go to their site here:
Birch Box Monthly Subscription Service
Do you get Birch Box? If so, what did you get? How about MyGlam? Let me know if you subscribe to a sampling program, there are a bunch out there.
