As most of you know my beautiful Mom passed away in July of 2013. Some days it seems like a lifetime ago and then days Ike today it seems like last week.
One of my favorite times with her was giving her manicures. I did this once a week as she had the fastest growing fingernails of anyone I ever saw. She always had the most beautiful nails. After her seizures she just wanted them cut back with a no muss, no fuss approach so that is what I did. I would brings several bottles of nail polish for her to pick out and she always liked the brightest colors. I think it was because she had glaucoma and. macular-degeneration, so the bright colors were easiest for her to see .
Here are are her favorites:

Barry M Bright Pink was one of her favorites. She often remarked on how well it lasted. Her most favorite color was purple.

She especially liked the Catrice brand out of Germany, which is a great polish and if you have a chance to pick so up I hope you do. Mom’s favorite was “Heavy Metallilac” and “Even More Heavy Metalilac”, which are both a gorgeouse purple duo-chrome. Thank you to my friend Carla for sending these to me. I also love Heavy Metalilac but can’t quite bring myself to wear it just yet. Soon…

Since the nut doesn’t far too far away from the tree, she also loved her some CHANEL polish…

The other thing my Mom loved was her kids and Grandkids. She wore this one for her great-granddaughter Audrey. She would often times ask me to bring this one for her. More for the name than the color. As you probably know this is called “For Audrey” from China Glaze. This was made to be the exact color of a Tiffany’s box.

Although Mom wasn’t there for Jilly’s wedding, she was in spirit. She helped Jilly decide which polish to wear. Not only did Jilly wear this polish but she had all her bridal wear it as well. I think it was a great choice.

Happy Birthday Mom. You will never be forgotten.

๐Ÿ’…As always, thanks for stopping by!

Julep Maria is the perfect rose gold metallic, on the market, in my opinion. I adore this color and by far this is my favorite Julep polish. As you can see it goes on opaque in 2 coats, no streaks, just beautiful. Did I say I love this color?
I think this may be the first nail polish I will fully use to the bottom!

I do use a hollowed out deer antler to hold my Julep bottles. (This was made for me to be a tooth pick holder by Bill, my niece’s fiancรฉ last Christmas.) This has never held tooth picks because it is perfect for my Julep bottles. If you don’t have a hollowed out deer antler, and really anyone outside of Idaho, who does? You can use a small glass or a small candle holder.

This is an old Avon candle holder that works perfect to keep the Julep bottles steady while using. I know the bottle is an issue for a lot of people. I also know Julep has no intention of changing their bottle anytime soon. Yes, I asked. To me this is a sad situation and another example of a growing company oblivious to their customers concerns. Sometimes when companies expand and grow so fast they are honed in on the bottom line, meaning $$$$, when really all they need to do is ๐Ÿ‘‚listen to what their customers concerns are and that is when the ‘ol bottom line really starts to grow, meaning $$$$$$. But, it is what it is. I do not want this to be a bash Julep post. I think it’s fairly apparent by the number of bottles I own and the number of months I have been a customer that I like this brand of polish. The only thing that would drive me over the edge would be a caviar kit, yes, a caviar kit which came out about, what 8 months ago. That would be the fork telling me, I’m done. ๐Ÿ˜

Tomorrow I’m adding a matte top coat. No not from Julep, I never get any of their extras like that. Erica gets all the extras, she gets the matte top coat, the nail therapy, the base coat and the cuticle cream. I get to embrace my un-named ” Mystery Glitter” which we all know I will never wear. I got a matte top coat in a kit from H & M. Wait til you see what this matte top coat does for these metallics! You will like, I promise, and I promise to post a picture here, so check back.

You can find Julep here.
This is a referral link, but we all know it does not seem to want to work that way. I’ve heard from other bloggers that had the same issues. But my fingers are crossed so I hope you use the referrall link, but if not you can always go to julep.com.
You can also find Julep on ebay and Amazon

๐Ÿ’… As always, thanks for stopping by and thanks so much for all your comments. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in my thinking. ๐Ÿ‘ฏ ๐Ÿ‘ซ โค๐Ÿ‘ฏ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ’ƒ

Julep Maria with a matte top coat. I used a matte top coat from a kit I bought at H & M this fall. I love the matte top coat on these metallics. I did this also on Megan and it was really pretty. I think I liked the look of the matte better on Megan than on Maria. If you try a matte top coat on a metallic, let me know how you liked it.

๐Ÿ’… As always, thanks for stopping by.

For me 2012 was and always will be the year of the subscription boxes. I don’t know what it is but if there is a subscription service for it, sign me up.
Julep was my first and so far my last sub box, I’m still subscribed to.
There was of course the ill-fated My Glam, Birch Box, and of course Sample Society, the Army Beauty Box, and the not so glossy Glossybox. But through them all I have stuck with Julep. As has my mom, daughter and various friends, all of whom still speak to me. (Which, btw, Julep did not recognize my referrals, ever. I should have received 3 boxes for free because of their referral program, but I received zero)

Brit from Julep Matte Suede Collection. This just came out in their Novemnber box. I received not one matte suede bottle, which to me would make sense, but I received 2 bottles of matte suede polish. I have on Brit, it is a very cool tone gray that I actually like. The other is called Amber and is a very warm, you guessed it amber color. I will never wear Amber. I don’t know about you but wouldn’t it make a little bit of sense to include just one bottle of the matte suede finish in the box. To me it is overkill to have 2 bottles of a definite trendy polish, a trend that has come and gone.

Speaking of trends, Julep’s biggest selling point for me was that they were part of the fashion community and would be right there with all the new colors and upcoming trends. I’m sorry to say this matte suede finish has been around awhile and is not an upcoming trend. Neither was the crackling topcoat that was featured in the December boxes. Yes, crackling topcoat. In either August or September the polish featured was magnetic.

You all know I adore a cream finish nail polish and I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, No-one does a cream nail polish like Julep. I Wish they would go back to their roots and stick with the cream polish they do so well. I know they have grown and are branching out into other areas of the beauty business, and good for them. The problem is their mascara for me was a complete and utter failure. I did not care for it one bit. I tried it a few times to give it a fair chance but it found its home in my garbage can. Their January boxes were another miss, as far as I was concerned. They featured a nude and a neon. Wasn’t neon every where this past summer? I have all the neon I need. They included the nude so as to make the neon pop. Clever idea, but since it has been done, put a fork in it because it is over. What comes in February will be interesting.

So then this arrived in my inbox. Now you know there is no resisting a Mystery Box, of any kind. I’m including the copy of the email for a reason, we’ll get to that. So I ordered and paid for my mystery box. I received 4 nail polishes, a glitter polish, a foot soak and a mascara. The box advertised itself to be over $100 worth of product, which mine totaled to $96, even using their retail prices. The actual cost to purchase this box is about $40. Okay, not enough of a big deal to say anything. As you can see in their advertising they say each Mystery Bag will receive a brand new, never before released glitter. Which I did, but mine was not sealed and there was no name on it.

Because of this I emailed them asking for the name. I received back the oddest email I’ve ever received. I was told that gosh, aren’t I lucky enough to get a Mystery Box and on top of that I am double lucky because I received a rare find of an all new never before released glitter polish. And, this part I kid you not “I should be happy to have got my hands on a Mystery Box in the first place and I should just embrace the fact that not only did I have 1 rare find in the box itself but for the un-named, opened bottle of glitter with no name.”
Isn’t this where the saying, ” Don’t pee on my leg and then tell me it’s raining” come in? I guess now we should ’embrace’ the fact that a company actually did what they said they would do. . Well, almost did what they said they would do. My box was no where near $100 but it did include the “ADVERTISED” never before seen, all new glitter. Which is it really an all new glitter? I was told it wasn’t sealed because that is something they started doing a while back, that they didn’t always seal the bottles. I don’t have a problem with the not sealed part of it. I know germs can’t live in a bottle of polish. I do however have a problem with advertising a brand new never seen glitter and then sending an obviously old glitter. Ray Charles can see this was an old glitter, which is fine by me but don’t say it’s brand new, never before seen.

I have been a customer of Julep for many months, over a year. I’ve seen where some people get a nice little anniversary package or a nice card/em>;; but for some reason Julep and I are not on the same wave length. I always feel terrible after any interaction with them. They kind of make me feel like maybe I’m stupid for asking. Just by my asking the name of the glitter polish I received 3 different emails from them. They did tell me the name, but it doesn’t matter here. What matters, in my mind, is the fact that as a customer shouldn’t I be allowed to ask a question? Shouldn’t I be allowed to have an opinion as to the fact they are so obviously following trends and not setting them? Am I supposed to send a thank you because I ordered and paid for a mystery box that they offered for sale? Since when is a customer supposed to “embrace” the fact a company provided, (well almost) what they said they would?
Out of all the boxes I’ve received, and all the boxes my Mom’s received we have never received any base coat, top coat, nail therapy or cuticle oil. I find that odd especially since I heard more complaints about people getting doubles of those things. I would love to try one of them. I know their body creams I’ve received have been wonderful. I use them for my mom, she has terribly dry skin and their body butters are awesome.

I have done more blog posts about Julep than any other company. I have done more You Tube video reviews about Julep than any other company. You guys all know I am serious about my nail polish. I do a lot work researching, shopping, reading other blogs, etc…. I did ask Julep if I could be included on their list to receive sample products to review. I asked if I could receive a box to give away I was told NO. But isn’t it funny a YouTuber who, when first reviewed Julep, hated it. Hated the bottle, hated the brush, dry time was slower than molasses, was her words. The only nice thing she said was the color Anne was the prettiest color polish she’d seen from them. This person. Was then sent several boxes for review, 1 to give away and about 6 others, ( probably to sell on eBay). And now this YT’er loves her some Julep when it’s time for the freebies, she doesn’t ever wear Julep polish. She does write a blog. I found 2 postings on Julep, one posting saying she would pass because of the bottle alone. The next entry, yea, you guessed it, blah, blah, blah, she loved it. that is 1 person out of a dozen I found. I find it odd that not one of them wear the polish.

I know this is getting long but this has been bothering me for some time. For some reason Julep has chosen to ignore my efforts with my blog and my You Tube channel, and that’s okay. They have ignored my tweets, my NOTD postings. They have always replied to every one of my messages, I will give them that. I always feel like I probably shouldn’t have bothered them but sometimes I have a question only they can answer. I know at the time I asked to be a part of their program for review I had just started on You Tube, and had very few subbies. But here we are a short hear later with quite few ‘more’ subbies. this blog is older than my You Tube channel, this blog has 300% the readers my you tube channel has, Thank You Readers! and I am very proud of my little blog. I am happy and thrilled, let’s say it again, happy and thrilled with the companies that do believe in me and provide me with samples for review. I’m not asking Julep again. They can continue with the ‘gurus’ that don’t really like their product and I will continue to get my boxes, my mother’s boxes and I will continue actually wear their product and of course I will post my findings here.
You guys know me, and you know this is not the type of thing I like to do. If its not all roses I pretty much stay away from, but this has been bothering me. Now I know how,the little red-headed step child felt. ๐Ÿ˜– ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜– ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜– ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜–
You can find Julep here. This is a ‘referal link’ but they have changed things up a bit and like I said, according to Julep no one ever signed up under me, but if you don’t want to use the referral link just go to Julep. You can also find Julep on QVC and Amazon. Some Sephora stores are now selling Julep as well. So it’s easy to find. It is a great polish, please don’t take this post the wrong way. For some reason Julep and MiddleAgedBeautyQueen just never clicked. Which is too bad in my opinion. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
๐Ÿ’… ๐Ÿ’“ ๐Ÿ’… ๐Ÿ’“ ๐Ÿ’…๐Ÿ’“ ๐Ÿ’… ๐Ÿ’“ ๐Ÿ’… ๐Ÿ’“
I want to make a Julep January, where for the month of January I wear nothing but Julep. I thought that would be kind of fun. Heavens knows I have enough Julep polish to accomplish this little challenge. Will you join in with me? What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below.

๐Ÿ’… As always, thanks for stopping by.

While commenting on one of my favorite blogs, BeautyObsessed tonight I realized there was quite a bit I needed to update here.

First off, No Repeat November Challenge! Yes, I participated. The idea was to go for the month of November without repeating any make up products. Since I only have a couple mascara & foundations this applied mostly to blush, eyeshadow and lipstick, for me. And of course nail polish, that was not a problem.
Each day as I did my make up I would put what I used in an empty Glossybox on my counter. That’s the picture above. At the end of the month I had 2 boxes overflowing. I was glad to see this challenge come to an end because I did not like my make up in boxes, on the counter. I like it put away. So I was happy on Saturday morning December 1st to put everything away. Nice and neat, that’s how I like it.๐Ÿ˜˜

What I learned from this exercise is how much I love my Burberry eyeshadow in Rosewood,on the left, and my Dallas bronzer from Benefit. I found myself more than once wanting to reach for them again, but I was a good girl. Funny but I’ve hit pan on both of these items! The No Repeat November Challenge was the brain child of Lauren at Red Head PHD I want to thank Lauren for including me in this exercise. It was nice to have something different to do, and some of my friends participated as well, so it was a fun little challenge and I learned something, which is always a good thing.

I did buy a ZoyaDream Box. This was on sale for $20, free shipping. I ordered one of their pre-made boxes which includes Edyta, Daul and Fei Fei. I am giving this box to my son’s girlfriend for Christmas. During Thanksgiving she pulled me aside and asked me to help her with her nails. I think she will love these colors and I think she will really appreciate this box.

I’ve also gone a little Deborah Lippmann crazy! Nordstrom had a great special, buy 2 get 1 free for DL polish. I bought On the Beach, which I blogged yesterday and Mermaid’s Dream. For the free polish I picked up another Mermaid’s Dream for my beautiful friend Diana. I knew she didn’t have Mermaid’s Dream, and I honestly think we are the last 2 on the planet to have this polish. I see why everyone is crazy about it. It is so, so pretty!

While surfing around the Internet I came across this Deborah Lippmann called Sweet Dreams. I fell in love with it and bought it from HSN. Not my most favorite place to shop but I felt the price was reasonable and shipping was fast.๐Ÿ˜„

Then of course Julep has been having Great Flash Sales and One Day Only bargains. If you havent gone to their website to register, use the link and register, then you can be a part of these sales. I get an email from them every morning and they are pulling out all their best right now. I honestly think this is the best time to buy Julep nail polish. So I bought Alfre, a pretty purple-y metallic polish. I haven’t used it yet but I’ve been wanting this one for a while now. The real reason I bought the polish, along with some other goodies?

This phone case was free with my order. My dad thinks I had it special made for me, it does fit me though! ๐Ÿ’… I love it and I’m loving my new phone. I got the phone for free when I extended my contract with Sprint.
Also, I participated in the Bloggers Secret Santa, which I will tell you more about, soon. AND, from BeautyObsessed I won a Make Up Forever Giveaway. I’ll definetly tell you about that when I receive.
I haven’t told you about the new Venique that was sent to me for review or the Rescue Beauty Lounge polish I purchased. I will, soon. There might also be some CHANEL involved. ๐Ÿ˜„
Shwooooo…. I think that’s all, let me know in the comments what you’ve been up to!
๐Ÿ’…As always, thanks for stopping by.. ( I know there are typos, I promise to fix tomorrow )

This is Gayle, from Julep.. Omg, how pretty is this color? I’ve had this for a while. I traded my friend Erica for it. This is 1coat, went on great, so smooth, absolutely opaque. I love this color.

Julep is a monthly subscription service for $19.99 you will get a box with usually 2 nail polish and one other item. To get your first box for ONE CENT use the code COLOR2012 or PENNY at the Julep website.

๐Ÿ’…As always, thanks for stopping by.

For those of you new to my blog, welcome! This is a series I do every Sunday. It’s where I use a polish from my collection that I have never worn, for whatever reason. It’s a way for me to use my polish, not just look at it, but wear it. I hope this inspires you to take a look at your collection and maybe wear one you haven’t. You’d be surprised at the gem you might find!

This is Maria from Julep. I first got this in a box from Julep almost a year ago. I had swatched it and thought it was pretty but didn’t wear it for a long time. Sometime around May or June I went to put this on and it had become separated and was almost like trying to paint bubble gum onto my nails. I emailed Julep, it was a Saturday so I didn’t expect to hear from them but I got an e-mail that afternoon and in Monday’s mail was a replacement bottle of Maria. Needless to say, I was quite impressed with their customer service.

Maria is a true metallic polish, it is a rose gold, not too light and not too dark. As with all metallic polishes it can be a bit fussy to apply. It is best to use one stroke from top to bottom and only one coat. Just to get my nails painted properly for this post, it took almost a half bottle of polish. Yes, Julep’s bottles are small, .27 ounces, but that should tell you how many times I would have to remove and start over on a nail. If I had to do any kind of going back over to smooth over it would become a gummy mess. There are still visible brush strokes that I thought a top coat of Seche-Vite would hide.

Although this isn’t my favorite polish because of the application, it is a pretty polish and I will wear it for a few days because I probably won’t be wearing this one again. I particularly wanted a pink polish for this series because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. October is almost over but I still wanted to wear pink to honor those who have been afflicted with this disease, those who have lost their loves to this disease and especially for those who have fought and won the battle against this terrible disease. Every time I wear pink, no matter the month, it is in “their” honor.

Please check out my previous post. I am giving away these 3 bottles of nail polish using Random.org. Leave a comment on the other post, tell me your favorite brand of nail polish and I will use random.org to pick a winner. Fingers crossed!

๐Ÿ’…As always, thanks so much for stopping by!

I often get asked what is the best brand of nail polish. Because of that, I have been working all summer on comparing different brands of nail polish. I compared over 3โƒฃ0โƒฃbrands of nail polish, all available in the US. Meaning this comparison of brands does not include any Barry M or other brands only available in the UK. I scored the different brands using these 5 items of criteria: brush/bottle, formula, price, dry time, and wear. These are the items that are important to me in a nail polish. When I was finished there were 3 brands that had all 5/5 stars! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
