The number for this week was 79, I have a confession to make regarding the numbers. My google spreadsheet quit working for me quite some time ago. My friend Diana sent the original to me, and between my health issues and her being on holiday I haven’t had a chance to ask how I can fix it. I have just been using my nail polishes willy nilly, no rhyme nor reason. ๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’‹
It’s not nearly as much fun as the Nail Polish Lottery Club and I hope to be back on track this week. (I think I have a plan to fix the problem, remember I said I think).
If you would like more information about the club, please go to our Facebook page here. We’d love to have you, all are welcome!
Now for this weeks “pick”

Porchester Square from Nails, Inc GEL NAIL POLISH EFFECT . This is a fairly new line from Nails, Inc claiming the benefits of a gel manicure, without the gel or the special light needed for curing the polish. The bottle says it has a new ‘plasticizer’ technology and it allows for plumping of the nail. I’m not sure about the plumping part, or why that would be a selling point, but I absolutely love the idea of a gel polish without the fuss. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Porchester Square is a great color. Nails, Inc sells this color in their regular line too. It’s one of my favorite types of colors, a mushroom taupe-y color that I think is a neutral and can be worn for all occasions. I would wear this for a job interview, without hesitation.

The formula on this was nice and smooth, easy to apply. The bottle is small, .27 ounce, but the brush was not too tiny for my big ‘ol nail beds. People with smaller nail beds will really like this brush.
These pictures are all 2 coats with a quick dry top coat. If I really wanted I could have used only 1 coat, a thicker application would be needed but coverage for this polish is awesome. I prefer to use thinner coats and I guess I’ve just made it a habit to always show 2 coats on my blog.

I have been trying out a few of these “gel effect” nail polishes to see how they hold up over time. I will have a post coming soon comparing the “gel effect” and showing the time frame each have for wear. I think it will be interesting and I’m curious to see how this one holds up. Stay tuned!

FINAL THOUGHTS: Nails, Inc GEL EFFECT polish has a nice formula, great coverage, easy to apply and I think the color is pretty. So far so good, but time will tell!

Gem from Nubar is a sparkle fest of pretty! I am no fan of glitter nail polish, as you all know, but this one is different. The formula for Gem is smooth and applies like a cream polish. Nubar has an excellent formula that wears wellโ€“a full week with very minimal tip wear and no chippingโ€“and is one of my favorites. The consistency isnโ€™t too thick or too thin, which enables the polish to apply evenly without streaking. Gem needs 2 coats for full opacity. I did not use a top coat. The caps for Nubar nail polish are all rubberized, very easy to open and to hold.
Removal was not difficult, it was not as easy as a straight up cream, but not hard to remove. I just held the pad with the remover on for a few seconds and then removed. When dry my nails were smooth and sparkled like crazy. I’ve had this bottle for quite sometime but hesitated to use due to my dislike of glitter polish. Another reason the Nail Polish Lottery Club is so much fun!

Nubar nail polish is completely, 100% cruelty free! I love that about this brand, I love that about any brand! The Leaping Bunny logo indicates that not only is Nubar a cruelty free brand , but all their suppliers are also cruelty free. I have an app on my phone (Cruelty-Free). that tells you the cruelty free companies. Not just nail polish but for all types of products. It comes in handy while shopping. It is nice to have a reliable source of cruelty free companies.
I know this is a touchy subject and there is so much mis-information out there and I have found the last place for accurate information are the companies themselves. (One very popular company touts itself as a “vegan” brand of nail polish yet when you search their website for vegan polish, 6 colors come up. I’m not sure how many colors they offer but it is hundreds, if not thousands. I don’t know why but they have also become to be known as cruelty free and that is an out and out lie.) I have come to rely on the Leaping Bunny logo and on my iPhone app: Cruelty-Free

20140315-135333.jpg
FINAL THOUGHTS: on Gem from Nubar. I like this sparkle-y color a lot. I also like this company because of the fact they are part of the Leaping Bunny organization. This is definetly one of my favorite brands. Nubar is sold in salons and online. There are quite a few online resources. I bought mine from Amazonfor $6-10 each.

Ciate Cookies and Cream from the monthly mani set, this was number 21, the same number drawn this week. This is a great color for an off white or winter white. The formula on these mini Ciate nail polishes is nice, very smooth. The bottles are small, .16 oz; less than one-quarter of the size of a normal .5 oz bottle. With the small bottles come a small brush. Even though the brush is small, it’s not bad to work with. It seems to pick up a good amount of polish. I did have to go back in for a couple of nails, but no big deal.

20140308-235804.jpg
For complete coverage 3 coats are needed. I’ve labeled the nails I used 3 coats and the one where I used 2 coats. Even though the coverage wasn’t that great, again no big deal.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON CIATE: I know as a nail blogger I’m not supposed to feature (or like) the Ciate brand of polish. I think we all know about the cease and desist debacle of a couple of years ago. I am sympathetic to the bloggers who were embarrassed by the brand. That being said I do like this polish. My use has been limited as I received the monthly mani kit as a gift and I love, love it. As with most things I love and adore I don’t want to use them. I get joy just from looking at the kit, I take the bottles out and look at them, look up swatches on line and put them back in their “window”. Now that we all know I’m a geek, I have decided to use and love, love my favorite polishes I adore.

Jo’mina from Illamasqua was the choice for me for Week 55 of the Nail Polish Lottery Club. I haven’t participated for about a month in the club, and I have missed everyone so much. This week I wanted to participate and I did paint my nails a couple of days ago. I think this polish is holding up good, even after a couple of days it still looks fresh. I love this color and the formula was great. I really don’t know why I haven’t tried this one before now because this falls right in my category for a favorite polish.

For more information about the club and for the guidelines go to our Facebook page for all the details. Of course I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have, as well.

My son Drew and his girlfriend Shawna. These 2 have helped me so much in the past month. They took me shopping this week end. I appreciate their help so much. They are both so busy with work and school. Drew is working nights so he doesn’t get a lot of rest. He still finds the time to help me though.

Artful Dodger from butter LONDON is a cruelty free polish kind if turquoise in color, maybe a bit of a dirty or muted turquoise. It’s really a nice color to have in your collection because it is different. And as I always say, different is good!

20131201-131250.jpg
You can see here on the back of every butter LONDON product is the Leaping Bunny logo. This logo is provided to the companies that not only are cruelty free but all their suppliers are as well. I love seeing the Leaping Bunny on some of my nail polish bottles but there are also brands that qualify for the logo and they don’t use it, Color Club and Ruby Wing and just a couple. You can also get a Leaping Bunny app for your phone, for free, and it lists all the companies, not just make up and nail polish.

20131201-131633.jpg
I am in love with this color and I can’t believe I’d never worn it before. It really is a pretty color. The formula was smooth and easy to use, the brush on butter LONDON polishes are quite skinny but they get the job done quickly and error free, most times. Dry time was fast. I did not use a quick dry top coat with this manicure but I did use the Julep Polymer top coat that is supposed to act like a gel finish without any curing time under a special light. Your normal light bulbs do the curing. Did I notice a difference as to the top coat being more awesome? No, it was no different than Seche-Vite,or the BL PD Quick Dry top coat would have been.

One more wedding photo I had to include. This is Ashley on the far left giving her Maid of Honor speech. Ashley left today to move to Chattanooga Tennesee. I have no words. I will miss my girl so, so much. Ashley, my girl, please remember and never forget I love you like you were my own child and you can always come home. Godspeed Ashley, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Black from Barry M is my pick for this week’s #NPClub. Barry M is also my Polish of the Month, I didn’t think this would ever happen., but here we are! You guys will be sick of Barry M before the month is out.

20131124-114922.jpg

20131124-114939.jpg
I just bought this black Barry M from Amazon.com along with a navy bottle. I do like black nail polish, I think it looks good on short or long nails. I think I like it just a bit better on shorter nails. But I still think it is pretty.
I will keep you posted if it chips or has terrible tip wear.

I hope you check out the nail polish lottery club, the links are above, it’s a lot of fun.

Notting Hill Blues from L’Oreal was released just about a year ago as part of their London collection. If you remember L’Oreal was releasing collections of nail polish from different cities. The London collection was my favorite as I bought this one, Brit Invasion and Now You Sea Me all from the London collection. I don’t know why I haven’t worn Notting Hill Blue before now as it is a gorgeous blue, my favorite color of polish. I will most definetly be wearing this one again and again. It’s so pretty, I think anyway!

20131102-101311.jpg
The formula of Notting Hill Blue was perfect, the brush picked up just the right amount of polish and I could have got by with only 1 coat but I did use 2 coats, no top coat. This is one of the reasons I love the Nail Polish Lottery Club, to discover these “gems” I already have in my collection!

Starbucks/potty break with my 2 girls shopping in Spokane last week end. The wedding is in 6 days! Yikes! So much to do! I am so looking forward to the wedding and seeing people I haven’t seen in ages it will be fun. Of course I will take as many pictures as my friends and family will allow to post on here.
