I often get asked what is the best brand of nail polish. Because of that, I have been working all summer on comparing different brands of nail polish. I compared over 3โƒฃ0โƒฃbrands of nail polish, all available in the US. Meaning this comparison of brands does not include any Barry M or other brands only available in the UK. I scored the different brands using these 5 items of criteria: brush/bottle, formula, price, dry time, and wear. These are the items that are important to me in a nail polish. When I was finished there were 3 brands that had all 5/5 stars! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Yes, I can finally say I have a real bona-fide nail polish collection. I am so proud of myself. It has taken a lot of work, but the fun kind of work you like to do when organizing something you love. And I love my nail polishes. Okay, there I said it. I love my nail polishes. Not so much that I want to marry them, but I do love them. I love to look at them. I love to re-arrange them. I love to swatch them onto nail wheels, and then do it all over again but this time let’s do it by colors. As you all know, or should know, I recently found this odd little cabinet at a yard sale $2, and it was mine. This is what it looked like when I brought it home.

20120706-232700.jpgI knew with a minimum amount of work I could have it looking like this in no time.

20120706-232909.jpgI was right, wasn’t I? . It’s a thing of beauty! I see all these other nail polish storage units that people are buying on e-bay for $40-90 and I think my $2 cabinet beats theirs all to heck and back. (sorry to those of you that bought the pretty ones from e-bay, if you love it, that’s all that matters).
The other thing I’ve been doing and I haven’t told you about yet, is, I’ve been buying up old spice racks at yard sales and then spray painting them a cream color. So far I have 2 and they work so well for nail polish. Before I found my beautiful cabinet, the plan was to find enough spice racks, spray paint them and then hang them on the wall. I will continue to buy old spice racks because I think it’s a great idea and I may sell them with my polish, if I can ever get my on- line store up and running. I’m going to show a picture of what I mean

20120706-233705.jpgthis is in my bedroom where all my polish now lives. . No, your eyes aren’t bleeding, that is just the terrible color pink I have on my walls and have not got around to re-painting that room. All the other rooms have been re done but why is my bedroom always the last to get done? Anyway, as you can see, along with the cabinet I have the 2 spice racks, I’m sure I’ll add a few more here and there, but for the most part I am done organizing my polish and the best part is I have my dining room back! Remember what it looked like before?

20120706-234121.jpgthis is my dining room today. Not a nail polish in sight and I love it that way. I love having my corner china cupboard back for china and some of the chatchkees I found for Jilly but she hasn’t seen them yet. The other thing that is good about my polish collection being housed in my bedroom, is that is the room with the least amount of light, and we all know that light is not friends with your nail polish. Not for the long haul anyway.

Thanks for stopping by, and remember to keep calm and paint your nails. ๐Ÿ’…

I’m loving this polish!

I love the way the colors fade into each other. I have on my half & half manicure, which I love but sometimes, depending on my color choices, it can be a little out there. With the New Black set of Haze, the purples just blend right into the next one. At first glance at my nails you really can’t tell I have on 2 different colors.
This little set is just the right size. Let’s face it, how many bottles of polish have you actually finished in your life? Me, zero. I like the idea of these smaller bottles, I’m sure I will use them all and it won’t feel like such a waste. Although, my daughter Jilly did finish a bottle of OPI Dim Sum Yum, a pretty fuschia pink.

This set comes in different colors. At Nordstrom they had pink, blue, teal green, black on black, a matte and shiny kit. The kits are $22, some were $14. I wish I didn’t own so many pinks and blues, I would have bought those kits. The New Black has a You Tube channel called newblacktv. On there today I saw they have a kit of different colors inspired by the designers at New York’s Fashion Week. The colors were all pretty bright and seem spot on for this summer. Maybe my next trip to Nordstrom I will pick up that kit. But in the meantime, I’m loving Haze. (get it? Purple Haze?);)

This is my dog Betty. She sleeps next to me on her bed while I’m working on my iPad. Tonight she is so noisy with the snoring and the tooting! Sheesh! Betty!

Today is one of those days. Ive been up since before the sun, my chores are done, I don’t like how my nails look. I want to re-paint them. Problem is, I can’t seem to decide on a color. Not like I don’t have any to choose from, I think it’s more like I have too many choices! Here’s what is on my nails right now:

I started with this

Last night I didn’t like the ‘frost’ finish so I added a coat of CHANEL’s Jade Rose. Which might I just say, there is nothing rose-yish about this color. I so wish it had just a hint of pink. I think I would like it more. Anyway,in the light of day, I don’t care for this manicure I spent so many hours on yesterday! I am removing this and will re-do my nails. Check back to see what I come up with!

As you can see I chose to do my half& half manicure with 2 colors from The New Black collection called Haze. This is a set of 5 mini bottles of purples, beginning with a very light lilac and going to a very dark purple. I used the 2nd and 3rd colors. I love it. This polish went on in one coat. Now you know, I’m not usually a fan of the one coat manicure but I can find no fault with this. I did use a topcoat of Seche Vite and it is dry already. Doesn’t feel spongey at all.
I got a phone call from the lady at the beauty supply store, the Venique polishes I asked her to get are there! I’m going to try to wait a couple of days before I pick them up because I know I will want to try them out. I’m really trying to go 3 days between polish changes. Ha! ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve had 3 polishes on in the last 24 hours, really, who am I kidding?
